"The Cloudback Whale" is the first segment of the 2nd episode of the sixth season of Trolls: TrollsTopia, and the 80th overall episode in the series. It premiered in February 17, 2022.
Synopsis[]
Poppy shoots off a firework and unintentionally offends a Cloudback Whale, an enormous creature that swims through the clouds, and takes to the skies on a cloud ship helmed by the Captain, Cloud Guy, in order to find the gentle beast and apologize to it.
Plot[]
Poppy, Branch and Holly are going to launch fireworks, and place the firework launchers on the edge of a cliff. Poppy notices that the clouds changed to a whale and turned gray, to which Cloud Guy shows up on a pirate ship to say that he was the one who did that. He says that they just encountered the majestic Cloudback Whale, one of the most gentle and wonderous creatures of all the world. It's quite resilient to the point of being impossible to hurt it physically. He adds that Cloudback Whales love lollipops, and there's no better way to tell them "I'm sorry" than with a "lollipop-ology".
Cloud Guy also states that the if Cloudback is truly moved by a gesture, it'll spout a rainbow of joy and good will right out of its blowhole, and lightning strikes on Branch twice. Poppy goes to comment that it's settled that she'll lollipop-ologize so the Cloudback will "rain-blowhole", and she's just got to figure out a way to up there. Poppy and Holly jump onto the pirate ship. Branch attempts to jump in too, but falls. Soon, the pirate ship is flying through the sky. Poppy is on the top of one of the sails, searching for the Cloudback Whale.
Poppy says that she just knew that if Cloudback give her a chance to apologize, he'll want to rain-blow. Cloud Guy says they'll catch the Cloudback Whale only if the land-loving crew does their duty; Holly and Poppy will have boat swains to tend to the sails, while Branch will clean the deck using a mop. The little dark cloud reappears, and Branch reluctantly accepts to clean the deck, as a montage of the shanty duties begins.
Soon, the ship is approaching a storm and the Cloudback Whale is flying into it. Cloud Guy makes the ship go higher, and Branch and Holly pull one of the sails down. The whale bumps into the pirate ship, knocking Poppy, Branch and Holly down. Poppy looks around and sees that the whale is gone, only to realize that the it's flying higher. It then charges at the pirate ship. Frightened, Cloud Guy disappears. Poppy throws a lollipop at the Cloudback whale and it smiles. They watch as the whale turns white, cheers happily, and flies away for real.
As the storm approaches, Cloud Guy takes the Trolls to their positions. He hears a splash and he, Branch, and Holly look below the pirate ship. Poppy is seen in a rowboat made of clouds and rows off. She's going to apologize again, and this time, it'll be so sincere that she's sure the Cloudback will double rain-blow hole. Lightning strikes and it begins to rain. Poppy is struggling to row because there are waves in the clouds. She sees the ship approaching her.
A huge wave crashes on her, and she notices a leak in her boat, to which she puts clouds in the leak. When she sees some cloud shark fins, she cowers and a cloud shark pops out. Poppy screams as its teeth shows lightning and bites on the boat; she jumps off the boat and through the clouds. Branch jumps off the ship, lands on a cloud and groans in pain while Cloud Guy laughs. Poppy lands on a soft gray cloud while Holly and Cloud Guy cheer for her. Branch is still on the cloud he landed on and feeling painful. Soon, the ship leaves the storm and the Cloudback Whale is no longer present, to which Poppy sighs sadly. She says that she genuinely thought a second apology was best, but now she has no idea what she was supposed to learn from this adventure. Cloud Guy says that she definitely learned the thing he said about apologies. Just when Poppy, Branch, Holly, and Cloud Guy hug together, a little dark cloud strikes lightning on Branch again.

- The episode's title, alongside the titular species' name, is a play on the Humpback whale.
- Some of the episode's music sounds similar to the most well-known soundtrack portions from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.
- Cloud Guy's initial appearance is a call-back to his introduction in Trolls.
- "Boom Da Party" plays at the beginning while Poppy is letting off the fireworks.
