The following is the current guidelines on naming articles.

Note these are subject to challenge and change, please refer to our Manual of Style and Article Policy for more detailed information.

Current Guidelines

As of January 7th, 2024, the following is a note of naming conventions.

  • Article titles; name is chosen by the main marketing of the franchise. An example of this is ;Spruce, while he refers to himself as "Bruce" in Trolls Band Together, he is only called "Spruce" in main media by DreamWorks themselves. Therefore, "Spruce" was chosen over "Bruce". This also is why "Archer Pastry" is known by this name over any others such as "Kaboom", his actual name.
    • This also applies to titles, hence why Prince Darnell/Prince D uses "Prince" while currently "Prince Cooper" is known as Cooper, because DreamWorks currently does not call him "Prince Cooper".
  • In-articles may use alternative names when there is someone by a different name. For example, Spruce is known as "Bruce" in Vacay Island, thus Trolls Trollpedia called Spruce as "Bruce" on related pages.
  • Concept art names are only placeholder names. If official merchandise has a different name then we use that. An example is DJ Suki's Wooferbug. In The Art of DreamWorks Trolls it was called a "DJ Stage Bug" but it officially was called "Wooferbug" in post Trolls releases. The name wasn't yet finalise in the book as the book was made prior to the release of Trolls and minor tweaks were made in final production. This is not the only example of this, but this is the most notable.
  • In notes to our Canon Policy, names change if canon retconning or new alliterations or additions of the canon come out. In this regards, 3D canon always is the default name, while 2D canon is secondary and all other media comes last. So if a movie renames a character, that name is regarded as the name of that character and their previous name is dismissed. This is again why "Bruce" is currently not used over "Spruce" because all merchandising of the character is current set for "Spruce" not "Bruce". If this changes in a future installment of the franchise, such as Trolls 4, then the name will be changed.

Current Known Disputes

  • '"Poppy" versus "Queen Poppy" - DreamWorks uses both, and both therefore are correct.
  • "Tadd" versus "Coral Blush"' - "Tadd" comes from The Art of DreamWorks Trolls World Tour, but "Coral Blush" comes from merchandise. It is not 100% yet decided what name is valid. For now, "Tadd" is used.
  • Prince Darnel/Prince D - has been delayed corrections due to an old vandalism issue between this page and Cooper that needs to be addressed first. Will likely be sorted in 2024, but the staff are aware of things. It was left due to the fact that it was unclear of the impact of Trolls Band Together on the character.

Disputing names?

If any issues occurs over names, please note it to Help & Feedback or Wiki Suggestions/etc, which ever discussions you feel is closet to the issues concerns.

Unless the name is incorrect and there is no dispute (for example, if "Poppy" got written as "Popple", then there is no dispute as "Popple" is a clear error), please do not use comment sections as there is a risk an issue will not be formerly addressed or missed.

See Comment Policy for more feedback.
