"Shiny Diamond" is the first segment of the 4th episode of the fourth season of Trolls: TrollsTopia, and the 58th overall episode in the series. It premiered in September 2, 2021.
Synopsis[]
Tiny Diamond introduces Poppy to his new invisible best friend 'Shiny Diamond' and Poppy does everything in her power to keep the fantasy alive for Tiny.
Plot[]
Poppy is skipping along when she finds Tiny Diamond playing ping-pong with no one. He claims he is, with Shiny Diamond. But Shiny doesn't exist; he is an imaginary Troll and Guy explains this to Poppy. When she was a child, Poppy had Remelda as an imaginary friend who made her safe. Poppy hasn't seen Remelda in a long time and ensures Guy that she won't break the ruse. Poppy says goodbye to Shiny and Tiny as she is off to see Val Thundershock, but Tiny asks if she is just going to leave. Tiny points out that when Poppy meets someone new, she usually drops everything to get to know them and Tiny now expects her to do that for Shiny Diamond. Due to the situation, she is unable to say "no" with any form of explanation.
As the day goes by, Poppy finds it impossible to keep up the "friendship" time spent with someone who doesn't exist. Val eventually finds Poppy letting him play jump rope with her hair, and Shiny and wonders where she got to; Poppy explains she is going along with the ruse. At first Val, gives the impression of things being very sweet, but she points out that Poppy has no plan and thus no reason to maintain the ruse to protect Tiny's feelings. Tiny is done with jump rope, and wants Poppy to try and teach him to ride a bike.
Poppy goes along with the ruse once again, but is reluctant to let go of the bike as she knows that Shiny being not real can't ride it. When she lets go, Shiny's bike crashes. Tiny reacts to "Shiny's condition", and proclaims he has broken bones but the emotional trauma runs deep and Tiny proclaims it should have been him. Poppy tries to cheer Shiny up with an imaginary Cuddle Pup, but Val, Tiny and "Shiny" can't see anything as the imaginary ruse only works for Tiny and Shiny, though it eventually works.
Poppy thinks it is okay, and Val questions if it was a good idea. Tiny soon approaches, saying that the puppy ran off into the woods and Shiny is worried about the imaginary dog. Tiny goes looking for him, but Poppy tries to stop him from wasting his time. Poppy says she has found the dog, but Tiny says that she has some other dog, and then that she is holding nothing.
Tiny suddenly "hears barking" and runs to find "Glitter Dog" is in the middle of a rickety bridge that looks too dangerous to cross. The problem is that not only is the bridge unsafe, but Glittergators and other critters are in the water below it. Val says that this has gone too far. Poppy goes to stop the ruse, but Tiny gives her puppy eyes and she can't resist him.
On the bridge, Poppy is hearing "come back" from Val and "keep going, I believe in you" from Tiny. When planks in the bridge give way, she goes to return. The bridge gives way and Poppy falls but Val rescues her. Before Poppy tells Tiny isn't real, Tiny reveals it first. Tiny explains everything leaving Poppy dumbfounded as she almost died when Tiny knew from the start that Shiny was fake; he kept it up because Poppy acted like Shiny was real.
Now Tiny is out of the picture, Val finally gets to introduce Poppy to Rockarella, her own imaginary friend. The episode ends with Poppy showing frustrations at the new situation.
