Shine Vine is a vine plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2, that was first introduced in the 8.0.1 update. It boosts the sun production of sun-producing plants.
About[]
Shine Vine is a seasonal Arena plant, unlockable with seed packets. It is a Vine plant, and as such can be planted on other plants.
Shine Vine behaves differently depending on the plant it houses:
- Normal plants (including Moonflower): Shine Vine produces 50 sun every 32-36s, similarly to Sunflower.
- Sun-producing Enlighten-mint family plants: In addition to its normal sun production, Shine Vine increases its housed plant's production by +25 sun per cycle.
- Magnifying Grass: Shine Vine ceases to produce sun on its own, and instead causes Magnifying Grass to automatically perform a free attack every 32-36s.
Additionally, when approached by zombies, Shine Vine will perform a stunning attack every 2 seconds in a similar fashion to Solar Tomato, causing them to drop extra sun (5 sun at level 1).

Shine Vine's showerhead-like attachment is based on a common sunflower (Helianthus annuus), coinciding with its sun-producing abilities.

Shine Vine |
Shine Vines are vine plants that amplify the sun production of sun producer plants, except Moonflower, create some sun on their own, and use a sun-stun burst as a last second defense when attacked. "Peek-a-boo!" giggles Shine Vine, staring directly at you, the player. "Consider that fourth wall SHATTERED!" |
Upgrades[]
Plant Food ability[]
![Shine Vine Plant Food](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/plantsvszombies/images/0/0c/Shine_Vine_Plant_Food.gif/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/160?cb=20200722141540)
When given Plant Food, Shine Vine immediately produces 100 sun and stuns all zombies in 3x3 radius, while also dealing 10 damage to them. The effect causes each affected zombie to drop 1 tiny sun (which are worth 5 sun each). The plant that the Shine Vine surrounds will also activate its Plant Food ability.
Costumed Plant Food Ability (China only)[]
When equiped a costume, it will now have a probability of producing coins (worth of 100 in total)
Enlighten-mint effect[]
When boosted by Enlighten-mint, Shine Vine's sun production rate will be increased based on its level, its sun production amplifier is increased by 75 sun, and its sun production is increased to 125 sun. Its stun duration is increased by 4.25 seconds, its Plant Food stun duration is increased by 5.25 seconds, and its damage caused to zombies is increased by 50 damage, its Plant Food damage is increased by 100 damage.
When given Plant Food, it will produce 250 sun. Its sun production rate is 3.5-5 seconds at level 1, 3.4-5 seconds at level 2, 3.3-5 seconds at level 3, 3.2-5 seconds at level 4, 3.1-5 seconds at level 5, 3-5 seconds at level 6, 2.9-5 seconds at level 7, 2.8-5 seconds at level 8, 2.7-5 seconds at level 9, 2.6-5 seconds at level 10.

Strategies[]
Shine Vine's perk is similar to Gold Tile created by Gold Leaf. Both of them save a tile and can produce more sun. Shine Vine can also amplify the sun production of sun producer plants, making it good to use in levels which require one to produce sun, as it makes one produce sun faster.
However, one can choose Shine Vine to be the sole sun-producing plant in a level. At low levels, it may seem to be too expensive for a plant that can only produce 50 sun, but at level 4, Shine Vine's 75 sun cost and 75 sun production is comparable to that of Primal Sunflower; and at level 5, its 50 sun cost and the fact that it is easy to spam make Shine Vine irreplaceable in many strategies. This can make more room for many other attacking plants, or providing extra sun while still having Plant Food for the desired plants if being planted on Power Tiles.
Shine Vine also make a viable choice in Endless Zone levels. It can not only increase one's speed of producing sun, but also protect plants by its stunning attacks. For that reason, Shine Vine is a great plant to pair with short attack range like Phat Beet, or plants with long recharge time such as Chomper. It can also be placed at the third column to stun Imps thrown by Gargantuars while producing more sun; however, its toughness is much lower than Pumpkin so it requires aid from other plants to defeat the Imps without having the Shine Vine eaten.
Also a good Shine Vine strategy is to use it with Toadstool. It does not only increase Toadstool’s sun production, but also stun zombies while Toadstool is chewing.
Shine Vine's short recharge time and its vine-functions make it somewhat helpful in defending against Turquoise Skull Zombies or Gargantuar Primes, as they can be sacrificed to save some important plants (in the case of the Gargantuar Prime, the laser might still destroy the surrounded plant). It can also stun some dangerous zombies very briefly, getting some time for other plants to recharge. However, some zombies such as Explorer Zombie, All-Star Zombie (when not tackled) can destroy it instantly, so be careful.
Using Plant Food on Shine Vine can act as a Solar Tomato, but clearly Solar Tomato is better for the job. It can be viable if you have a boosted Shine Vine in later stages of Endless Zones.
For some unknown reason, Shine Vine's sun production is stacked in Arena: after planting them during the setup and waiting long enough, all the Shine Vines on the lawn will instantly give out sun, therefore giving a burst of sun right at the start of the game.
Balance changes[]
Update 8.2.2[]
- ▼ Stun duration decreased from 2 to 1.05 seconds at level 1.
- ▼ Stun duration increase between levels decreased from 0.25 to 0.05 seconds.

Trivia[]
![Shine Vine2Old](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/plantsvszombies/images/6/64/Shine_Vine2Old.png/revision/latest?cb=20200627012409)
Shine Vine in the 8.1.1 update.
- Shine Vine had a minor redesign in the 8.1.1 update, but it was then changed back to its original design in the 8.2.1 update.
- Magnifying Grass' Plant Food effect ignores Shine Vines, meaning that Shine Vine cannot make the Plant Food duration last longer, even if the Magnifying Grass is surrounded by it.
- It is the only Vine plant who cannot be used in Last Stand levels, due to being a sun-producing plant.
- Shine Vine can boost Solar Sage's sun production on planted, but not on triggered or Enlightened Zombies she illuminates.
- Glitter Zombie can kill Power Mints on Shine Vine. This is a glitch.
- Shine Vine is one of the few plants to break the fourth wall based on its almanac description.
