Eggplant Ninja (茄子忍者, lit. "Eggplant Ninja"; pinyin: Qiézi Rěnzhě), also known as "Auberninja",^[1] internally referred to as "eggplantninja", is a plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 2.2.8 update.

Eggplant Ninja attacks by throwing shurikens at zombies in an arc pattern in one of two adjacent lanes, these shurikens pierce through all the zombies in the lane they're thrown in. Once the shurikens approach the back of the lane they're thrown in, they will arc back into the lane Eggplant Ninja occupies and return to it, damaging all the zombies in the lane he occupies from the back. Every three normal attacks, Eggplant Ninja will throw a big shuriken that causes more damage.

Origins[]

Eggplant Ninja's design is based on the eggplant (Solanum melongena), also known as the aubergine; and a ninja, a covert agent or mercenary in feudal Japan.

When fed with Plant Food, Eggplant Ninja will throw five regular shurikens into all five lanes on the lawn.

Costumed[]

When fed with Plant Food while costumed, Eggplant Ninja will now throw five gold shurikens instead, which stun zombies and are more effective.

Strategies[]

Use him as a more efficient version of Whirlwind Acorn or Bloomerang, as he is less expensive and recharges himself faster. Additionally, his very high damage output, adjacent lanes attacking and the added capability of hitting flying zombie makes him very versatile in various aspects and capable of taking on various difficult levels and even level 4 zombies even on level 1. Equipping him with pendants that boost his damage output and plant family boosts can help him become even more of a choice In various situations.

Beware that only his big shurikens are able to attack Barrel Roller's barrel and only the backyards impact of the ninja stars can damage small animals zombies such as chickens and weasels. Whilst the first is barely a problem because most likely Eggplant Ninja will kill the imps, it is advise to bring a wall or stalling to deal with the laters.

Trivia[]

• According to an announcement made in the official PvZ2 QQ group, Eggplant Ninja is Pretty Plum's brother.^[2]
• He is the only plant in the main series to be based on an eggplant.
  • In the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies, Imitater is known as "Transforming Eggplant", despite being based on a potato as the English name suggests.
    • Both eggplants and potatoes are part of the nightshade family, however.
• His costume is a forehead protector, referencing the Naruto series.
• He’s mentioned in Tupistra Stalker’s almanac entry.
  • Coincidentally, they’re both Chinese-exclusive.
• It’s impossible for his shurikens to be deflected in any way.
  • It’s also impossible for Excavator Zombie to eschew being damaged by them at all
