Cran Jelly is a premium plant added in the 10.9.1 update of Plants vs. Zombies 2 as part of his own dedicated Arena season.

Cran Jelly is an instant use plant that teleports to the first column and rolls down its respective lane, damaging zombies on hit, and generates a goo puddle on kill, which 30% slows and damages other zombies further. Goo puddle cannot slow Dr. Zomboss, Imp Cannon, and Zcorpion Zombie.

The goo puddles can override butter puddles (from Buttercup and Bud'uh Boom) / sap puddles (from Sap-fling) / oil puddles (from Olive Pit) / slippery ices (from Zomboni) / poison tiles (from Goo Peashooter) / lava puddles (from Lava Guava) / molten pools (Meteor Flower), while these kinds of grid items cannot be spawned on goo puddles. Shallow puddles and pothole puddles have a higher priority, thus being able to prevent goo puddles to be spawed on them and destroy goo puddles on spawning. It cannot be created on ocean tiles in Pirate Seas, or on the water in Big Wave Beach.

Origins[]

Cran Jelly is based on a cranberry, a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs or trailing vines in the subgenus Oxycoccus of the genus Vaccinium. Cran Jelly's name and function are based on cranberry sauce, more specifically the jellied cranberry sauce dish.

When boosted by Contain-mint, Cran Jelly will deal an additional 100 damage with his normal attack, an additional 30 damage with his goo attack, and his goo puddle life time is adjusted to 12 seconds.

Strategy[]

Cran Jelly is a fun and reliable addition to the instant-use plant category. It’s a versatile plant that proves helpful at almost any level due to its effectiveness and the fact that it has no direct counters.

First and foremost, Cran Jelly is one of the best rolling plants for crowd control. Unlike Tumbleweed or Bowling Bulb, Cran Jelly excels at clearing lanes filled with zombies. With its high damage output, it is also highly effective at destroying grid items like tombstones, ice blocks, statues, tents, and octopi.

Cran Jelly’s recharge time is reasonable and can be further reduced as it levels up, allowing for more frequent use. As it levels, Cran Jelly gains the ability to roll across three lanes or even five lanes, maximizing its effectiveness. One of its most useful traits is its ability to return to the leftmost row and roll down the lane, regardless of where it was planted. This makes it an excellent solution for dealing with zombies that slip past the player's defenses. For instance, it can effectively counter special zombies like Prospector Zombie, Magician Zombie, or zombies in Jurassic Marsh, where dinosaurs act as environmental modifiers, helping zombies advance toward the player’s house.

Cran Jelly also leaves behind goo puddles when it successfully kills zombies. These goo puddles deal damage over time (DoT) to any zombies that walk through them, lasting for a significant amount of time and further contributing to its utility. However, this ability may be less useful in certain modes, such in Arena battles when the Contain-mint family plants are Bruised or in Penny’s Pursuit, where high-level zombies can resist or overcome the puddles.

Cran Jelly is effective in almost every world, as it can roll down special tiles like water tiles in Big Wave Beach, plankless tiles in Pirate Seas, switch tiles in Frostbite Caves, and even cart tracks in Wild West. Its versatility makes it a valuable asset in any environment.

Cran Jelly has a sun cost of 75, which is great and reasonable. This allows players to spam it effectively without draining their resources, enhancing its utility in various situations.

Overall, Cran Jelly is a fun and dependable plant to add to your arsenal. It performs well in various situations and brings significant utility without any major downsides. Whether you’re dealing with tough zombies, clearing obstacles, or controlling the battlefield, Cran Jelly can handle the job.

• In the same manner as Buttercup's butter puddle, Cran Jelly's goo puddle is a recolored version of Sap-fling's sap puddle.
• In the Brazilian version of the game, Cran Jelly's name is coincidentally the same as the name of a city in Brazil.
• Cran Jelly's berry form bears a resemblance to the scrapped Apple plant from Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars.
• Cran Jelly has the highest damage output out of any plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2, since it deals damage per frame. This can also be manipulated by changing the frame rate in the settings menu.
