Bean Sprout is a premium plant added in the 10.8.1 update of Plants vs. Zombies 2. He is a wall plant that is initially passive, and transforms into his monster form when taking 1400 damage or if planted on one that is currently passive. In his monster form, he punches zombies with single-target attacks every 0.36 seconds, reaching up to two tiles ahead and behind him. If he doesn't get any targets, he reverts to his passive state and is fully healed.

Origins[]

Bean Sprout is based on the mung bean (Vigna radiata), a plant species in the legume family, which is mainly cultivated in East, Southeast and South Asia, with the sprout on his head is based on the sprout of mung bean.

Plant Food effect[]

When given Plant Food, Bean Sprout transforms into his monster form, if he wasn't already, and sends massive shockwaves both in front and behind him.

Reinforce-mint effect[]

When boosted by Reinforce-mint, Bean Sprout will deal an additional 50 damage with his normal attacks, an additional 100 damage with his Plant Food attacks. His Plant Food ability is activated and will always release one additional shockwave.

Strategies[]

Bean Sprout has a few similarities to Kiwibeast: One thing is that the more they're eaten, the more powerful they become. A huge difference within those two is that Bean Sprout is a Reinforce-mint family plant, so Reinforce-mint can help boost him by activating his plant food effect, causing massive damage on the board. He's good against Dr. Zomboss fights in Penny's Pursuit.

Bean Sprout needs to be worried of the Zombies that can instantly kill him such as Explorer, Troglobite, MC Zom-B, and Gargantuars, as well as non-eaters, like Football Mech, Fisherman, Excavator and Punk, or zombies that ignore him completely such as all flying zombies (barring Seagull and Pelican), Wizard, and Octo.

A world where Bean Sprout can prove useful is Jurassic Marsh, where he works well due to the lack of special zombies.

NEVER use Intensive Carrot on Bean Sprout (unless the Intensive Carrot reaches level 3 or if he is used with Enchant-mint); he will be eaten before he turns into his monster form. Just use Imitater to either double Bean Sprout plantage, or to turn one into his monster form as soon as he's planted.

• Bean Sprout's overall concept, most notably growing arms when transforming into monster form bears a resemblance to one of Kiwibeast's concept art, which involves Kiwibeast growing two arms when transforming into beast form.
