- For other uses, see Imp (disambiguation).
Imp Pear is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 that was introduced in the 7.5.1 update. When Imp Pear is eaten, the zombie that ate it will be transformed into an Imp Pear Imp. Any Imp that eats it are destroyed, releasing gas that stuns zombies behind them for 7 seconds. It destroys Zombie Chickens and Ice Weasels on contact.
It was unlocked by spending $14.99 for "Imp Pear's Bundle" from August 25, 2019 to September 10, but its seeds could also be obtained in Dark Ages piñatas from September 1 to 14.
It was released in the Chinese version in the 2.4.1 update, along with Electrici-tea. By default, Imp Pear can only affect zombies up to level 2. At level 4, its special ability applies to zombies up to level 7.
Origins[]
Imp Pear is based on the pear, a pomaceous fruit created by pear trees.
Imp Pear's name is a play on Imp, pear, and impair, referencing both its ability and the plant that it's based on.

Imp Pear |
When zombies eat Imp Pears, they become Imps. When Imps eat Imp Pears, they are destroyed, releasing stunning gas. Imp Pear impairs zombies. Of course, Imps don’t appreciate this characterization, but who cares? |
Chinese version (China only)[]
使僵尸吃了之后变成小鬼僵尸
植物特征:矮个子 小黄梨可以削弱僵尸。当然,小黄梨并不喜欢这种特性,“别人老是说我颜值和菠萝蜜一样!!”。 In English: Plant characteristics: short Imp Pear impairs zombies. Of course, it’s not what he's looking for, "Why am I Jackfruit's face?" |
Upgrades[]
Plant Food effect[]
When fed Plant Food, Imp Pear will randomly target up to five zombies on the screen, turning them into Imps if possible. If an Imp is targeted, Imp Pear instead destroys them, causing them to release gas. In the Chinese version, Imp Pear will instead deal 500 damage to zombies that cannot be transformed. The following zombies cannot be targeted: Dr. Zomboss, Cardio Zombie, Roman Caesar Zombie, Z-Mech, #caketank, Barrel Roller Zombie's barrel, Zombie Parrot, Zombie Hamsterball, Healer Zombie, Zombie Medusa, Zombie Medusa's statue, Catapult Zombie, Zomboni, and Zombie Bobsled Team.
Ail-mint effect[]
When boosted by Ail-mint, Imp Pear's damage percentage against Imp Pear Imps created by its ability is increased to 90% and its Plant Food effect will turn fifteen zombies on-screen into Imps. If Imp Pear is at level 10, Ail-mint will have no effect.

Strategies[]
At first glance, it may be hard to justify using Imp Pear over the likes of other edible plants such as Chili Bean and Shadow-shroom, since it does not kill zombies instantly. The main benefit that Imp Pear has over these plants is its sun cost and recharge. Thanks to being free, as well as having a fast recharge, Imp Pear is extremely effective at stalling early zombies, and can even help against early hordes of zombies if given support. Because of this, Imp Pear should be planted as soon as it is available in order to have the best effect.
Imp Pear is superb against tough zombies such as Buckethead Zombies and Jurassic Fossilheads, or even mechs from the Far Future, as it can instantly nullify any threat they may have as long as they eat plants. Additionally, Imp Pear can also serve as an early game spammable meat shield thanks to its fast recharge and the fact that its HP is the same as normal plant's. As any Imp that eats an Imp Pear will not only be destroyed but leave behind a trail of stunning gas (like Chili Bean), spamming a couple Imp Pears in a lane can help to stall the lane, and potentially halt the level from advancing.
Imp Pear is extremely effective when Imitated, as it not only allows you to more reliably spam Imp Pears, but it also allows you to more reliably get Imps to eat Imp Pear, thus allowing you to trigger the imp indigestion more reliably. Imp Pear also combos rather well with Shrinking Violet, as any Imp targeted by Shrinking Violet will be killed instantly. Combining their Plant Food effects through the use of Tile Turnip can also be effective, just be careful to use the Plant Food on Imp Pear first; otherwise, the combo will not work. Even without using Shrinking Violet, Imp Pear's Plant Food effect is deadly in its own right, as zombies that don't eat plants such as Imp Cannons, Fisherman Zombies, Gargantuars and Zombie Kings can be transformed into Imps normally. Since it does not inflict damage, it can also be used to instantly destroy Chicken Wrangler Zombie and Weasel Hoarder without them releasing their payload or kill them outright if they have been released.
Imp Pear is particularly effective in Dark Ages due to being free, and being a rather decent counter to both Knight Zombies and even Zombie Kings, as the Zombie King cannot knight Imps. Imp Pear is also an effective choice in levels that require you to not spend more than x amount of sun since it is free and can easily cripple many zombies. Imp Dragon Zombies & zombies spawned by Necromancy can also be swiftly killed.
Due to being edible, it is unwise to use Imp Pear versus zombies that can't eat, such as Explorer Zombie, Octo Zombie, or Jetpack Zombie, although the Plant Food effect still works. Additionally, it is ill-advised to use Imp Pear in levels where you can't lose plants as it must be destroyed for the ability to take effect. Unlike plants such as Gold Bloom or many of the Power Mints, Imp Pear's benefit does not outweigh the risk of losing a plant.
Imp Pear is also incredibly powerful in Arena, as his Plant Food effect allows him to instantly defeat a number of non-immune zombies on the field regardless of their toughness, earning the player points for those defeated zombies (in addition to armor points if they have any), while leaving behind Imps that can also be defeated for extra points. For this reason, it is best to use him in conjunction with Tile Turnip during tournaments where Plant Food is plentiful, or to use him during Boosterama tournaments (alongside his Imitater counterpart) to tremendously boost your score since you can just literally spam him and still get good results. Bringing Ail-mint along will allow unmaxed Imp Pears to clear out more zombies at once, albeit temporarily.
Note that the Arena/Penny's Pursuit-exclusive zombies such as Cardio Zombie, Z-Mech, and Zombie Hamsterballs are immune to the Plant Food effect of Imp Pear for balancing reasons, so be careful when bringing Imp Pear for the Plant Food effect, though other plants can still be used. Other zombies that are immune to the Plant Food effect include Zombie Parrot, Zombie Chicken, and Ice Weasel. However, the Parrot doesn't matter if the Pirate Captain was transformed into an imp, while the latter two die on contact and do not damage the plant.
Although Imp Pear is effective, never use it on Prospector Zombie or Jurassic Marsh zombies affected by Pterodactyls, as if the player uses them, Imp Pear's spawned Imp will head to the left again, causing them to activate the lawn mowers, or eat the player's brain unless you're fast enough to place a second one.
Try not to use only Imp Pears in levels where Healer Zombies or Zombie Medusas are encountered because they will be immune to it or its Plant Food, although it is still viable against other threats vulnerable to it, as Zombie Medusa does nothing else and Healer Zombie cannot undo its transformation ability. In Sky City, Imp Pear is basically useless since the only zombies that can eat plants that cannot fly are the Imps thrown by Flying Gargantuar. The immunity also applies to its Plant Food effect.

Trivia[]
- Prior to the 7.6 update, the Epic Quest featuring it could be glitched in several ways. A list of glitches is presented below.
- It did not present the reward and the steps.
- When the player completed the quest, the player would get a glitch in the reward-collecting process. When the player tapped the screen, it only presented a sun sprite. Aside from that, the player would be stuck there.
- To prevent being stuck, the player had to exit the game and enter the game again. However, the completed quest would still be left in the Travel Log. If the player attempted to replay the quest, they would be led to the reward-collecting screen with the same aforementioned results.
- In Step 1 of the Epic Quest, nothing happened when an Imp ate it.
- If a Bug Bot Imp eats an Imp Pear, it is still destroyed immediately as it technically behaves like an Imp.
- In the Chinese version Imp Pear can somehow affect the two Kongfu World bosses, Gunpowder Devil and Blade-Wielding Hero, via its Plant Food effect. When it happens, Imp Pear takes away 1 full bar of their health and causes an Imp Pear Imp to spawn on the bottom row of the occupied ones. This occurs as these bosses do not reuse Zomboss codes that grant immunity to the plant's effect.
- All Chinese-exclusive Imps (except the Imps from Steam Age, Renaissance Age, and Heian Age) are coded to be normal zombies, since when Imp Pear gets eaten by them or they get hit by its Plant Food effect, instead of dying, they transform into Imp Pear Imps. This can also be seen when Shrinking Violet is used on them where they get shrunken instead of outright despawning.
- Gargantuars will despawn and leave behind their heads if an Imp Pear activates its Plant Food ability and targets one. The exception is Gargantuar Prime, which just despawns.
- Imp indigestion is influenced by Buffz & Bruisez. When Ail-mint family plants are weak or ineffective against zombies, Imp Pear loses its effect even if it reaches Mastery 200, which is because its Mastery increases toughness instead of damage. This also applied to Chili Bean in earlier updates. However, as of the 8.7.1 update, Imp Pear and Chili Bean gained a Damage Pierce as part of its mastery upgrades, thus helping them overcome Bruisez in Arena.
- Under normal circumstances, when a zombie eats a Mastery 12+ Imp Pear, its secondary ability activates immediately, destroying said Imp.
- Imp Pear reuses SFX from Witch Hazel.
