Blast Spinner is a premium plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 11.6.1 update. She is able to lob webs at zombies in adjacent lanes, stunning them for 4 seconds. Affected zombies may be turned into cocoons that will explode and deal damage to all surrounding zombies. When destroyed, Blast Spinner will web zombies in a 3x3 area, having a chance to turn them into cocoons too. If its projectiles land on a tile that cannot be planted on, hit zombies will never be turned into cocoons, being damaged and webbed instead.

Origins[]

According to an official Reddit post, Blast Spinner is based on the cobweb house-leek (Sempervivum arachnoideum), a species of succulent plant named as such due to its thin, furry rosettes resembling a spider's web. She is also based on what seems to be a Jumping Spider with her eye placement being identical to the front of a Jumping Spider.

Plant Food effect[]

When given Plant Food, Blast Spinner launches multiple web cocoons at nearby zombies, turning them into explosive cocoons or dealing heavy damage to them.

Contain-mint effect[]

When boosted by Contain-mint, Blast Spinner will deal an additional 150 damage (increases by 20 damage for each level) with her normal attack, an additional 450/475/500/525/550/575/600/625/650/750 damage with her Plant Food attack, an additional 1 cocoon is shot during the Plant Food effect, her cocoon chance is increased to 80%, her attack cooldown is reduced by 0.5 seconds, and her cocoon explosion timer is reduced by 1 second.

Strategies[]

Blast Spinner is a highly effective plant in any world due to her ability to conjure immobilizing webs, which cannot be countered by any means, similar to Stickybomb Rice. Furthermore, Blast Spinner has additional advantages over the aforementioned plant, as she can damage airborne zombies. Interestingly, Blast Spinner is also immune to freezing winds in Frostbite Caves.

As a Level 1 plant, Blast Spinner is quite strong, boasting a 35% chance to cocoon zombies, and when the cocoon explodes, it deals damage in a 3×3 area, making it a reliable ability. Leveling her up can further enhance her effectiveness in battle.

However, her attack speed is relatively slow, with an interval of 6.5 to 7 seconds between attacks. Additionally, her recharge time of 20 seconds is quite long for a stalling plant. Therefore, it is not advisable to use Blast Spinner as a primary attack plant; she requires backup, and planting her in large numbers can be quite challenging. Support plants and walls like Stallia, Iceberg Lettuce, Chilly Pepper, Chard Guard, and Sweet Potato can help slow down zombies or group them together, maximizing the effectiveness of Blast Spinner's area-of-effect web explosion from her cocoon, which deals significant damage. Freezing and stunning zombies are reliable strategies to prevent them from advancing and assist Blast Spinner in attacking them.

Lastly, Blast Spinner is very vulnerable to fast zombies like the All-Star Zombie and Zombie Bull. Therefore, the aforementioned utility and wall plants are almost essential for maximizing her effectiveness. It is also worth noting that Blast Spinner can explode upon defeat, dealing damage in a 3×3 area and having a chance to cocoon any zombies in that area.

• In the beta version, Blast Spinner can instantly kill all zombies in a tile if its cocoon lands on the tile that cannot be planted on.
• There is a bug which causes Blast Spinner to only have a 25% chance to turn zombies into cocoons.
• According to an official Reddit post, Blast Spinner is obsessed with zombie guts.
• Blast Spinner's "happy when idling and angry when attacking" traits are familiar of the Sundew Tangler's traits.
• Despite having toughness, Blast Spinner's cocoon is almost invincible like Nightcap, Sundew Tangler, and Instant-use plants during the existence, making its toughness useless.
