“ | Tikki, spots on! | „ |
~ Marinette beginning her transformation into Ladybug. |
“ | That's not true! You don't have to crush anyone! There's no such thing as winners, or losers! There's just... people, with other unique differences and other individualities! [...] I'm not finished! [...] Zoé, no one will judge you here. You can just be yourself. You might trip, you might fall, and there'll always be someone to help you back up. I'll always be there for you! | „ |
~ Marinette to Zoé/Sole Crusher. |
“ | After the wish, all I could find was the double wedding ring along with the Miraculouses that Monarch had turned them into rings and Cat Noir's and mine. I transformed into Aqua Bug and searched the basement but nothing. Even after repairing everything, it is as if the brooch had disappeared. But whatever happens, we'll be ready. When Monarch seized my yo-yo, he suddenly gained access to the Miraculouses all at once. This can never happen again, which is why I'll remain the Guardian but only to support and help my fellow heroes. From now on, each holder will be responsible for their Miraculous and their kwami. To be ensured that power will be used for the greater good, it needs to be shared. | „ |
~ Marinette's speech in Re-creation and her most famous quote. |
Marinette Dupain-Cheng, also known as her superhero identity Ladybug, is one of the titular main protagonists of the Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir series. She was a normal French girl until she received a Miraculous, a magical jewel that, with the help of a kwami, Tikki, can turn her into a superheroine by Master Fu, the Guardian of the Miraculous. The Miraculous she received was the Ladybug Miraculous, one of the most powerful, alongside the Cat Miraculous, and it gave her the power of Creation. She used it to protect Paris from the evil Hawk Moth, who often akumatizes normal people (turn them into supervillains). She's also the love interest and girlfriend of Adrien Agreste.
In French, she is voiced by Anouck Hautbois. In English, she is voiced by Cristina Vee (who also voiced Killua Zoldyck in Hunter x Hunter, Wonder Woman in the 2019 DC Super Hero Girls reboot, and Rei Hino / Sailor Mars in the Sailor Moon anime series). In Italian, she is voiced by Letizia Scifoni (who also voiced Astrid Hofferson in DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon franchise).
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- She saves people after they get akumatized.
- She deeply cares for about her friends and family, including other people.
- Protects people from Hawk Moth, including other villains.
- Despite Chloé being mean to her for years, she shows some care and sympathy towards her.
- She has stopped many dangerous akumatized villains, including ones who have wanted to destroy or endanger the world.
- Reverses a mistake to prevent the terrible events of Cat Blanc from happening, saving Paris from being destroyed and thwarting Cat Blanc's attempt to destroy the universe.
- It is justified why she punched Félix (Adrien's cousin) as he forcefully tried to kiss her, preventing this from being a wrathful and/or lethal moment.
- In Miraculous New York:
- She revived Uncanny Valley after she was accidentally killed by Cat Noir, which was Techlonizer's (and indirectly Hawk Moth's) fault since the former (who deliberately grabbed Cat Noir's arm to kill Uncanny Valley) was already evil on his on accord before being akumatized by the latter.
- She stopped Hawk Moth and Miraclonizer from nuking Paris and starting a world war.
- In Miraculous Shanghai:
- Despite yelling at her friends in “Gang of Secrets”, she felt genuine remorse for this and apologized.
- Later in the same episode, she manages to convince Lady Wifi to resist Shadow Moth's control so she could become Rena Rouge and defeat the other akumatized villains, and even confesses the truth to her best friend at the end of the episode.
- In "Sole Crusher", she interfered when Chloé try to manipulate Sole Crusher (who was Zoé akumatized), into crushing kitty Section, while at first calling her out for absorbing people, which was actually a reminder that she was the only person that she spared from her rampage, Marinette then explains to Sole Crusher that the concept of the "winner and loser" doesn't exist, Marinette then looks into Sole Crusher's eyes, probably knowing that she was going to be upset if she continued, and slightly disappointed what Chloé had done, (although Sole Crusher took pity on her, and allowed her to continue explaining to her for her earlier kindness when she first arrived in Paris when she was Zoé), then she comforted her by telling her there's just people with other unique differences and other individualities, Marinette was forced to break up a confirmation between Sole Crusher and Cat Noir who annoyed the latter for her giant size, then tells Zoé/Sole Crusher that no one will judge her here, and that she can be herself and, she might trip or fall, but there will be always someone to help her back up, and she will always be there for her, showing her comfort and reassurance, although this backfired when Hawk Moth successfully convinced Sole Crusher otherwise.
- In Season 4, she began handing out Magical Charms to prevent people, or at least reducing the risk of, getting akumatized.
- In the season 4 finale, she didn't get mad at Alya after she revealed her secret identity to Nino, even letting her keep the Fox Miraculous.
- In Miraculous Paris:
- Despite her evil counterpart: Shadybug putting her, Cat Noir and Betterfly in constant danger, she showed no anger towards her. When she learned of Shadybug's backstory, she took pity on her and taught Shadybug about kindness and forgiveness, thus redeeming her as a hero and having her counterpart team up with Betterfly.
- In "Emotion", she defeats Argos, who tried to use the powers of Red Moon to wipe out humanity (save for a select few), by outsmarting him.
- In "Confrontation", she, alongside Sabrina, exposed Lila for the manipulative liar she is.
- In “Re-creation”, after she failed to stop Gabriel Agreste/Monarch from sacrificing himself, she doesn’t tell Adrien that his father was Monarch to protect him from devastation, resentment, or misery.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She has moments where she lets her overly secretive behavior get the best of her.
- She has stalking tendencies towards Adrien and even has his daily schedule.
- Even though her heroic qualities definetely outnumber her depraving qualities, she often can mess up certain situations to her personal gain, or to get closer to Adrien. Perfect examples are:
- In the episode "Antibug" Ladybug was rude to Chloe, while she was giving her tips where the Akuma is hiding when she was fighting Sabrina (although Chloe was guilty of getting akumatized Sabrina, she was right about the Akuma). It caused Chloe to get upset with Ladybug, getting akumatized and turning into Anti-bug. Even if Chloe was rude to Marinette, Marinette directly caused this akumatization.
- In the episode "Volpina" she humiliated Lila in front of Adrien by exposing the lie of owning the Fox Miraculous resulting in her akumatization.
- She was the reason why Kagami was akumatized in episode "Riposte" she unfairly and with no proper analysis called Adrien a winner (although she admitted she didn't know who was the winner, this means that she wasn't fair with Kagami).
- In episode "Reverser" she lied to Nathaniel that Ladybug would like to meet him. Although she wanted to meet her acquaintance Marc and Nathaniel with each other. And even if she had good intentions, she messed up anyways. Still, she fixed her mistake, so it's a small prevention.
- In "Miraculous World: Shanghai", she refused to forgive Fei for stealing her belongings, and angrily sever ties and ended her friendship with her, although she regretted it.
Trivia[]
- She is the very first page to be created on this wiki.
- While she is NPG now, it is possible she will subvert her corrupting factors in later seasons after season 5.
- Ironically, her movie counterpart is Pure Good.
