Whirly Fly Guys are a rare variant of Fly Guy featured exclusively in the Yoshi platforming games. They first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and make a reappearance in both Yoshi Touch & Go and Yoshi's New Island.

Behavior[]

Whirly Fly Guys differ from Fly Guys in that they repeatedly flash between different colors. A Whirly Fly Guy is not instantly defeated by an egg thrown by a Yoshi or watermelon seeds spit at one, but instead this causes the Whirly Fly Guy to start dropping coins. After enough hits, the Whirly Fly Guy is finally defeated, and the Yoshi earns one or two extra lives in the process.

In Yoshi Touch & Go, Whirly Fly Guys have a different behavior of hiding in the grass at first, and when a Yoshi approaches a Whirly Fly Guy, it quickly flies off. If Yoshi manages to defeat the Whirly Fly Guy, the player earns four points.
