Lava Drops (also called Fire Drops) are a sub-species of Cloud Drop and a relative of Podoboo featured in the Yoshi's Island series. They first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

In Yoshi's Island series[]

In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, they commonly appear in fire-themed levels, forts, castles, and underground volcanoes. Lava Drops are very common in World 6. Lava Drops behave identically to Cloud Drops moving in the up, down, left, and right in the air to try and hit a Yoshi to knock Baby Mario off his back, they are commonly seen in groups making avoiding them a challenge, they can be somewhat annoying as they are impervious to all of Yoshi's attacks including swallowing and even egg throws. The only way defeat a Lava Drop is by passing through a Middle Ring or from using a Winged Cloud.

Lava Drops have since reappeared in Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 and Yoshi's New Island with the same role as in the original. In the latter, they behave identically to Podoboos by hopping out of pits of lava.
