Muddy Buddies are purple creatures which appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its remake Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3. They appear in only one level, Sluggy The Unshaven's Fort. When a Muddy Buddy touches Yellow Yoshi, it sticks to his feet. During this, the player can control the movements of the Muddy Buddy and allow him to safely move Yellow Yoshi across a series of spikes. Yellow Yoshi can stop riding Muddy Buddy by performing a Ground Pound.

In Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Muddy Buddies also appear in the secret level Mystery of the Castle?.
