Sacred Stone (part 1)

|
“ | When the Demon King reached into me from inside the Dark Stone...When he whispered he would see all my dreams and desires made true...I...I did not reject him. In the shadows of my heart, he saw jealousy...vanity...It was my weakness that put these emotions there, allowed them to thrive. | ” | — Lyon |

Eirika's route begins with a flashback to a year and a half prior, when Lyon and Eirika bid each other farewell; Eirika reaffirms that he, she, and Ephraim will always be friends, and Lyon resolves to progress his research into Grado's Sacred Stone for universal good. In the present day, the group reaches Lyon in the Black Temple; Lyon apologizes to Eirika for his weakness against the Demon King before being overtaken by him and initiating a battle.
Ephraim's route similarly begins with a flashback to a year and a half ago, when Lyon and Ephraim say goodbye to each other. Lyon wonders if they will drift apart in the future, but Ephraim believes they will always be friends, even if Renais and Grado go to war. In the present day, the group reaches Lyon in the Black Temple. Ephraim asks Lyon if it is his fault Lyon changed, but Lyon tells him it is not; Ephraim resolves to defeat Lyon, but Lyon boasts that he cannot be defeated.
After the battle, once Lyon is defeated, the twins speak to him before he dies. Lyon tells Eirika that he is in love with her; he tells Ephraim that he is jealous of him, but Ephraim says he looked up to Lyon for his kindness. Once Lyon is dead, Fomortiis takes Lyon's body as a vessel for his resurrection.
