Orbital Gate Assault is a retired stage on Super Smash Stadium, and one of the longer-lived ones at that. It debuted two month into Season 9 and was the 48th new stage to debut overall. In the 26 years that it was active, it was played 385 times.
Stage overview[]
A rather chaotic stage that took place in the following sequence:
- You started on top of the Great Fox, facing right this time, with some Arwings flying overhead. The ship's jet blast could inflict damage if you touched it.
- An Aparoid missile then showed up, and the Great Fox flew away, forcing you onto the missile. An Aparoid fighter would then crash into the missile, damaging any player, but also releasing an item. The Arwings would quickly fly off-screen, killing anyone who was still on them. Like with the Great Fox, the missile's jet blast hurt to touch. The missile accelerated briefly until crashing into the Orbital Gate's force field. The shockwave from this could inflict damage and knockback.
- Three Arwings would then destroy the missile, briefly tossing anyone still on it into the air, and then the fight would come back to the Arwings. The Arwings would fly through the gate and would DO A BARREL ROLL away, dropping you onto a second missile.
- Second verse, same as the first, but facing left this time.
- The Arwings, facing left this time, destroyed the missile again, bringing the fight back on top of them for a third time. The Arwings tried to evade mini-missiles, but one of them would explode, damaging whoever was in the blast, but only killing around 250%. The Arwings would eventually drop players back on the Great Fox, starting the stage's cycle anew.
As with other Starfox stages, there was a special taunt that could be performed on this stage. For this to work, all players had to NOT be any Starfox character, and hold or as the level loaded.
Changes[]
None.
Why it was retired[]
It was ultimately seen as way too chaotic for a Smash Bros. stage. Don't ask why the staff needed 26 years to determine this...
In its own universe[]
The Beltino Orbital Gate is part of the eighth story mission of Starfox Assault. Here, the parasitic Aparoids mount a direct assault on Corneria in a last-ditch attempt to stop the planet from deploying an Aparoid-eradicating virus. Both Starfox and Starwolf work together to push the Aparoids back.
