Funky Kong is a playable character on Super Smash Stadium. He debuted late in Season 20, alongside Rumble Falls.
In his own universe[]
Funky Kong is one of the major supporting Kongs of the DK Country series. A stereotypical surfer, he's often cited how laid-back he is as a reason why he doesn't take a more forward role. Instead, he's provided behind-the-scenes support via a flight service, a garage, and a gun/ammo retailer.
Following Microsoft's buyout of Rare, however, Funky began to take more forward roles. His most notable one to date was in Mario Kart Wii, where he became a playable character, and arguably the most broken one at that (despite being a heavyweight), to the point where many cynics have "nicknamed" the game "Funky Kart Wii". Even more recently, DK Country: Tropical Freeze was remade on Nintendo Switch, and featured a "New Funky Mode" that allows Funky to be playable.
Attributes[]
Funky Kong essentially rolls into SSS about the same as he was in Mario Kart Wii. A heavyweight, he's lighter and faster than DK, but weaker. He still won't have much trouble racking up the damage and landing the kills in spite of this, especially since he has the projectiles and disjoints that DK lacks.
Changes[]
...Yes.
Moveset[]
Entrance: Flies in via his Jumbo Barrel plane.
Move Name | Description |
---|---|
Neutral Special:
Sniper Mode |
Funky takes out one of the guns he sold in Donkey Kong 64 and fires up to five shots at opponents. Exactly what happens depends on the weapon he draws:
Cannot kill. |
Side Special:
Catch a Wave! |
Funky equips his surfboard. A wave of water then washes over the battlefield; it breaks as soon as Funky jumps off. Prior to the advent of swimming halfway through Season 32, anyone caught underwater was slowed down. All who are hit by the wave take up to 20% and moderate knockback.
Kills at 140%. |
Up Special:
Funky's Flights |
Funky jumps into his Jumbo Barrel, giving him free reign to fly over the course for about three seconds. He can jump out of the plane to end the move early. Even though this is a recovery move, it will not leave him helpless; however, he can't use the move again until he hits ground. If the plane comes into contact with a fighter, it hits them, doing up to 10% and moderate knockback.
Kills at 170%. |
Down Special:
Wheelie |
Funky does a "wheelie", using his surfboard rather than a Mario Kart Wii bike. Either way, it's a counter; if anyone touches him during the wheelie, he intercepts the move and pays it back double. |
Final Smash:
Banana Bird Queen |
Using the helicopter from DK Country 3, Funky summons the Banana Bird Queen. A crosshair appears on the screen; press again, or wait five seconds, and she'll drop a MASSIVE egg on the battlefield where the crosshair is. It bounces up to three times before either breaking or going offscreen. Anyone hit takes insane damage and knockback; however, anyone on the ground over 100% gets buried, possibly limiting its usefulness.
Ashley Variant: Ashley uses her own helicopter pack instead. Kills at 105%. |
