Lucario is a playable character on Super Smash Stadium. The first of only two new characters to debut in the "Brawl Era", as well as the first character to debut with St. Clair Publications being sole producers of the show, it debuted on the Season 37 premiere, alongside Spear Pillar.
In its own universe[]
One of the "mascots" of Generation 4, Lucario was hyped up quite a bit as a Legendary Pokémon in the animé's movies. It isn't, however...it's a perfectly normal Pokémon that evolves from Riolu if its Friendship is maxed out and it's then leveled up in the daytime. But just because Lucario is overrated doesn't mean it's bad: with one of the widest movepools ever in the Pokémon franchise, slightly higher Special Attack than Attack (but nonetheless able to hit hard on both sides), and multiple gimmicks that were clearly made to test the then-new physical/special split, along with the fact that it rarely loses more than 1 HP to Stealth Rock, Lucario is still a force.
It gained a Mega Evolution in Generation 6, which makes it an absolute monster.
The Pokémon appears to be a blatant ripoff of Luke Skywalker, with its "aura" ability being a clear parallel to the Force. Alex further drove this home in his Nintendo Switch remake of Tropes vs. Women in Pokémon Training, which introduces a Dark/Fire-type regional variant to Lucario said to have been "seduced by the Dark Side of the Aura".
Attributes[]
Lucario rolls into SSS pretty much unchanged from the Pokémon games. It's a middleweight (despite being a Steel type) that hits hard and has moderate speed (it's fast for a Steel type, though). It has a unique gimmick in its "Aura" power: once it reaches 50%, its moves get even stronger, at the rate of 1% for every additional percent of damage it has, effectively doubling its power at 150%. This, combined with the "rage" mechanic introduced in Season 39, has the potential to make Lucario a downright MONSTER at high percents. The problem, of course, is getting Lucario to live that high. It's a middleweight, and unusually frail for a Steel type.
As in the Pokémon games, Lucario has a wide movepool on SSS, with many good moves available to it.
Changes[]
...Yes.
Moveset[]
Entrance: Comes out of a Poké-Ball.
Move Name | Description |
---|---|
Neutral Special:
Aura Sphere |
Lucario charges up a blue blob of Aura energy. Press again to fire, or shield to save it for later. Anyone who touches the charging ball gets hurt slightly.
Kills at 90%. |
Side Special:
Force Palm |
Lucario fires an Aura burst at opponents that can hit up to a step away. Close-enough opponents are then grabbed and hit with a palm thrust, possibly paralyzing them.
Kills at 60%. |
Up Special:
Extreme Speed |
Lucario launches itself into the air. Use to steer. Its Aura power determines how far.
Cannot kill. |
Down Special:
Double Team |
A counter. Unlike most other counters, though, Lucario pays the opponent's attack back with a fixed amount of damage based on how much Aura it has at strike time.
Kills at 125%. |
Final Smash:
Aura Storm |
Lucario warps to the top of the stage and fires a giant blue beam downwards. You can use to steer. Starting in Season 42, Lucario Mega Evolves, but this is only for show.
Kills at 120% normally, but 0% at max Aura. |
