The Duck Hunt Dog is a retired character on Super Smash Stadium, and one of the longer-lived ones at that. Debuting alongside the Duck Hunt stage, he notched 430 appearances in the 18 years he was active.

In his own universe[]

The Duck Hunt Dog is, for better or for worse, the "star" of the one-hit-wonder Duck Hunt franchise. He's your personal hunting assistant, but he does little for you other than hide in the bushes and laugh at you when you miss.

Attributes[]

Just like in the canon Smash games, the Dog was assisted by a duck. Unfortunately, the duck didn't exactly do much for his ability to attack, although it did help his jumping and air game. The Dog was a middleweight with average power, speed, and jumping.

Changes[]

  • Season 15: Some of his more glitchy moves got fixed, allowing them to hit opponents more reliably.

Moveset[]

Entrance: Jumped behind a tuft of grass, pointed, and laughed, making a realistic dog laugh sound instead of his more infamous one.

Move Name Description
Forward Smash:

NES Zapper

Duck Hunt Dog fired shots from precisely that. The move had larger range if charged; however, the high knockback the move dealt was actually a hindrance, as the third and strongest of its three possible hits might miss.

Killed at 170%.

Up Air:

Wild Duck

The duck pecked out in three directions.

Killed at 60%, but only if the opponent was close to a kill zone already.

Neutral Special:

Trick Shot

The Dog kicked the can from Hogan's Alley. Each successive press of B Button kicked the can another time. It exploded after 15 seconds. It did great damage, but little knockback.

Killed at 190%.

Side Special:

Clay Pigeon

Duck Hunt Dog threw precisely that like a Frisbee. If you pressed B Button again, the pigeon would be shot, hitting opponents with its shrapnel. If it landed on the ground, it stayed there for five seconds, during which the Dog could attack it to accomplish the same feat. However, opponents could break the pigeon as well.

Could not kill.

Up Special:

Duck Jump

The duck grabbed the Dog and flew him around for up to five seconds. You used Control Stick to steer.

Could not kill.

Down Special:

Wild Gunman

The Dog summoned someone from precisely that game. The gunman waited three seconds, fired a shot, and then disappeared. The damage and knockback dealt from this move depended on the gunman summoned; however, they were only good at racking up damage and were bad finishers. The Mexican stereotype gunman was the most desirable, as while he had the shortest range, he had the most power and could kill the easiest. His shots also burned.

Killed at:

  • Fat Cowboy: 200%
  • Tall, thin, scared-looking cowboy: 185%
  • Dick Dastardly ripoff in black: 190%
  • Guy in jacket: 160%
  • Mexican: 150%
Final Smash: Final Smashes didn't exist while Duck Hunt Dog was active.

Taunt[]

His infamous laugh, which you can hear in the Annoying Box™ in the corner of this article.

Victory[]

  • Pose: Did his signature laugh from an 8-bit grass tuft.
  • Theme: The Duck Hunt "game start" theme.
  • "No Contest"/Loss Theme: That damn laugh, spammed over and over and over again.

Costumes[]

  • Default
  • Black/green duck
  • Blue/red duck
  • Dalmatian/yellow duck: The yellow duck may have referenced Woodstock. However, the Dog bears little resemblance to Snoopy except for his color.
  • Pink/Daffy Duck: The pink palette probably referenced Porky Pig.
  • Yellow/Donald Duck: The Dog's yellow palette may have referenced Pluto.
