Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are playable characters on Super Smash Stadium. Baby Mario debuted in Season 10, alongside Yoshi's Island 2 (which, ironically, is based off the Super Smash Bros. Mêlée YI level and is thus based on Super Mario World 1 instead of 2!); Baby Luigi was added a few months into Season 42 as part of the level's 2013 "reboot".
In their own universe[]
They're baby versions of the Mario Bros., duh. They were created because Super Mario World 2 was intended to be a "prequel" to the entire Mario series, taking place even before Donkey Kong, and thus having them as adults wouldn't have made much sense. The game opens with a Stork delivering the Baby Mario Bros. to their parents; however, Kamek, sensing the damage the babies will do in the future to his own "charge", tries to intercept them. He succeeds in kidnapping Baby Luigi, but Baby Mario falls into a field where he is "adopted" by various Yoshis, who attempt to finish what the Stork started.
Attributes[]
Being, well, babies, the Baby Mario Bros. essentially play as smaller, weaker, but faster versions of their adult selves. While their small size and high speed are certainly advantages, they lack in power, and are often overly dependent on their Final Smash or items to get the kill.
Changes[]
- Season 15: Was buffed in all stats.
- Season 36: Was severely nerfed in all stats.
- Seasons 38 to 41: Taken off the roster altogether.
- Season 42: Reverted to his Season 15 self; Baby Luigi added as Echo Fighter/alternate costume à l'Olimar/Alph.
- Season 47: Lag reduction of .1 seconds on all moves.
Moveset[]
Entrance: Pop out of a pipe. (Before Season 15: Rode in on a Yoshi, who then took him off.)
Move Name | Description |
---|---|
Neutral Special:
Watermelon Throw |
The Baby throws a melon. Does moderate damage, but minor knockback. Has a 10% chance to stay on the field, where it will heal someone by 50%, except during the lifetime of Yoshi's Island 3, where it instead functioned like the item.
Kills at 655%. |
Side Special:
Skis |
The Baby hops on skis. Functions similarly to Wario's Bike, except it doesn't stay on the field. The active Baby does minor damage and knockback to anyone he hits.
Cannot kill. |
Up Special:
Cape Flight |
Referencing how he turns invincible in the Yoshi series, Baby Mario jumps into the air, then opens his cape and floats down. Press down to cancel the move.
Cannot kill. |
Down Special:
Shy Guy |
The Baby throws a Shy Guy, which does the following:
Fat Guy kills at 190%. |
Final Smash:
Baby Mario Finale |
See adult Mario's Finale, give it Super Mario World 2 graphics, and add a Yoshi stampede. This makes it stronger than adult Mario Finale, since the Yoshi stampede makes it harder for Kirby to use Stone to avoid the move.
Kills at 11%. |
Taunts[]
- Up Taunt: Grows, then shrinks.
- Side Taunt: Juggles Yoshi eggs.
- Down Taunt: Goes into a bubble, then pops out.
