"For the honor of the Japanese Empire!"
— Imperial Commander at the start of Headquarters.

The Imperial Japanese Army (Kyūjitai: 大日本帝國陸軍, Shinjitai: 大日本帝国陸軍, Romaji: Dai-Nippon Teikoku Rikugun), officially the Army of the Greater Japanese Empire, was the land force of the Empire of Japan. They appear in Call of Duty: World at War as well as its DS version, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and Call of Duty: Vanguard. Its naval counterpart was the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Call of Duty: World at War[]

Campaign[]

The Imperial Japanese Army are the main enemy faction of the Pacific campaign. They wear different uniforms depending on the levels. They mostly wear Japanese khaki or white M98 and Type 3 uniforms with different equipments depending on their missions, and use Type 90 helmets, field caps, peaked caps or hachimakis. They use Arisaka rifles with or without bayonet, Type 100 submachine guns, Type 99 light machine guns, Type 92 heavy machine guns, Nambu pistols and Kiska grenades.

Various of these soldiers perform banzai charges against the player, trying to kill him with their bayonets.

Snipers usually hide on trees wearing Ghillie suits and using scoped Arisakas.

Officers can also be encountered and use Type 100s.

Multiplayer[]

The Imperial Japanese Army appears on every multiplayer Pacific Theater maps and they face the Marine Raiders.

The characters appearances depend on the weapons used and also the perks. The Imperial Army bolt-action skin is a soldier wearing a ghillie suit composed of a camouflaged uniform and netted helmet covered with lots of leaves and natural foliage, and is arguably the most effective camouflage skin. The rifle skin is a helmet-less soldier wearing a standard uniform and a hachimaki. The submachine gunner skin is a fully equipped paratrooper with a M90 helmet over an officer's hat and a carrying case for a Type 100 submachine gun strapped to the chest. The shotgun skin is a fully equipped officer with an officer's hat. The machine gun skin is a muscular helmet-less soldier wearing a standard uniform.

Trivia[]

Call of Duty: World at War[]

  • If surprised in combat, they will sometimes fire their Arisakas semi-automatically.
  • When a Japanese Soldier is killed or hit by Flamethrower, sometimes, instead of saying "Kasai" (Fire) and "Atsuidesu" (Hot), they will say "Api" (Fire in Indonesian Language) and "Panas" (Hot in Indonesian Language). This indicates that some of the soldiers are Heiho Soldiers (forcibly conscripted).

Call of Duty: Vanguard[]

  • When a Japanese soldier is burned alive by the M2 Flamethrower, his corpse isn't burned. This could be a texture bug.
