History[]
Ryu Terui was born to his parents Yuji Terui and Mayumi Terui, and had a younger sister Haruko Terui. As an adult, his family were killed by the Weather Dopant who froze them solid and shattered them to death. Before his father died, Ryu was told to beware of the "Man with the W Memory". Ryu, however, went the opposite direction and sought for revenge with the aid of the mysterious Shroud, who supplied him with the Engineblade as he headed for Futo.
First appearance of Ryu Terui (Kamen Rider Accel)
Ryu became a police officer and moved up he ranks, eventually becoming the Police Superintendent for the Futo PD. He spied on the Narumi Detective Office while dealing with Gaia Memory related crimes througout the city, later receiving the Acceldriver from Shroud to become Kamen Rider Accel. However, Ryu went overboard with the case regarding the Iceage Dopant, whom he had mistakenly believed to have been Weather.
Though he and Shotaro Hidari clash at first, Ryu becomes an ally to the Narumi Detective Office when it comes to investigating the Dopant crime wave, as well as picking up some of Shotaro's habits in dealing with Dopants even after losing it upon finally finding his family's killer: the Weather Dopant, Dr. Shinkuro Isaka. After obtaining the Trial Memory from Shroud and learning to use it, Ryu is able to finally take his revenge on the Weather Dopant, using the Trial Maximum Drive to destroy his Gaia Memory, after which Isaka dissolved as a result of his long-term abuse of Gaia Memories.
After Isaka's death, Ryu becomes more open to the others and continues his role as a Kamen Rider to fight off the Dopant crime wave prior to learning that it was Shroud who gave Isaka the Weather Memory, though she had no idea that his family would suffer as a result. Furthermore, Ryu learns he has a unique physiology, enabling him to withstand the intense power of certain Gaia Memories and was selected by Shroud because he can resist the Terror Dopant's Terror Field. Because of this, Shroud wants him to assume Shotaro's place as Double using his hatred to enable Double to reach full power. However, Ryu has shown Shroud that he can fight with compassion and does not need to be Double to fight. Furthermore, after Philip's disappearance after Jun Kazu's defeat, Ryu had grown to love Futo with a desire to protect it, overall a complete turnabout from his initial personality.
Although he eventually rejected her advances to stay professional, he eventually started a romantic relationship with landlady/head of the Narumi Detective Office Akiko Narumi. Giving her the affectionate nickname "Chief" (署長, Shōchō) to reference her status at the Office and to give her authority, which she found cute. During the events of W Forever, Akiko tells him the story of how people watch the Futo Fireworks and fall in love, and she wants someone to watch it. So, just before he and Shotaro go to fight NEVER, he promises he will watch them with her. He fulfills his promise, and they fall in love.
Movie War Core[]
In Movie War Core, Akiko tries to stop him from being a Kamen Rider, saying it was getting in the way of their life (and their wedding day), and causing them too much pain. However, he says he is a Rider to protect her. That, combined with what she saw through the Memory Memory about her father, convinces her to allow him to keep his Driver and Memories.

Ryu stopped Shinnosuke and Go to capture a robber who had his identity copied by Roidmude 051 because he won't allow any police officer to interrupt the crime investigation in Futo City without permission, especially the robber who was also involved in Gaia Memories as he shows the Beast Gaia Memory. He immediately notices that Shinnosuke is a Kamen Rider after he had been called by Krim. Before Shinnosuke and Go were about to save Chase, the robber started to flee and resist arrest, revealed himself to be Roidmude 077, and stole the Beast Gaia Memory. Shinnosuke and Go transformed right after Krim arrived to battle the Roidmude after it transforms into the Beast Dopant. Ryu immediately joined the battle and revealed himself to be Kamen Rider Accel. After the destruction of Roidmude 077, Shinnosuke and Go bid farewell and Ryu wished them luck. Kamen Rider Zi-O NEXT TIME: Geiz, Majesty[]
Terui was first mentioned indirectly by Ora as her father's acquaintance. they both arranged a meeting in a cafe. He already arrived early to the cafe where he meet the trio, with them awkwardly asking if he is the cop. After introducing his name, he asked if Geiz really wants to become a cop. When Geiz said no, he was asked as why he become a cop by Sougo Tokiwa, however, he did not want to answer the question.
After Sougo apologized, he revealed the reason. At first he wanted revenge, but he slowly changed because of the affection by his partners. He become a police officer to protect a city. Being told by Sougo that Geiz was trained in judo, Terui told Geiz to do what he wants to do for others, only to confuse Geiz even more. Geiz made the conclusion that he does not want to become a cop, but Terui asked Tsukuyomi to help him. He was also forced to pay the drink they ordered.
After a while, he picked up Geiz to chase the Kasshine who abducted Sougo to an old abandoned factory. He was told that someone reported to the special crime division that a robot attacked a group of teenagers, After Geiz asked why he wants to help him, he answered that he sees a man who understands what to do, he picked his engineblade from his motorcycle and starts to search Sougo.
They eventually found him and ambushed the Kasshine who abducted Sougo earlier. He lend Sougo to Geiz as he fights the Kasshine, He transforms into Kamen Rider Accel. At first he had the advantage, however, another Kasshine suddenly ambush him from the back, while trying to deal with the other Kasshine. Eventually, Terui is overpowered in number and strength, as he tried to hold one Kasshine but sees the other trying to kill Geiz, and pushes the other Kasshine away from Geiz.
After Geiz transformed into Kamen Rider Geiz, he handled one Kasshine to Geiz. Geiz and Accel land a final blow to both Kasshine, and he helps Geiz and left the factory.

while he was apparently hunting the Riders. When his and Tsukasa's ruse was revealed, Accel and the other Riders appeared through the dimensional wall. Accel then fought alongside all the other Kamen Riders and Super Sentai against Dai-Shocker and Dai-Zangyack's Shocker-Zangyack Alliance. During the final battle, he is seen in the background with Shotaro and Philip and the Magirangers fighting Doukoku Chimatsuri. When first introduced, Ryu acted in a very cold manner, being obsessed with avenging his deceased family. Caring very little about his duties as a police officer, Ryu focused solely on revenge, attacking any that stood in his way. Similarly bitter at Futo City, Ryu believed its criminals to be irredeemable, especially those that became Dopants. Thus, Ryu decided to replace W as Futo's Kamen Rider, snidely deeming his predecessors as "too weak".
Believing Makiko Katahira to be the culprit for his family's demise, Ryu attempted to murder her on several occasions, doing so without any hesitation. However, upon learning that she was the wrong suspect, Ryu acted visibly shocked from the revelation, feeling ashamed of his reckless actions. Having been spared from making an irreparable mistake, Ryu begrudgingly accepted Shotaro's method for dealing with criminals; sparing Kiyoshi Katahira's life by arresting him instead. Yet, when learning that Kiyoshi was not the one who murdered his family, Ryu regained his desire for revenge, albeit now tempered with a newfound sense of justice.
While still somewhat aloof in nature, Ryu gradually became closer to Shotaro's group, accepting them as his allies. Though occasionally criticizing Shotaro as too soft-hearted, Ryu continues to uphold his promise with him in valuing the lives of others, rather than just simply punish those who have sinned.
From his encounter with Shinkuro though, Ryu was overwhelmed once more with anger and grief, becoming obsessed with avenging his family. Ignoring his friends' pleas, Ryu felt compelled to murder Shinkuro on his own, despite the obvious gap in power between them. Dismissing W's help as an annoyance, Ryu ignored the result of his reckless actions, much to Philip's disgust. Viewing Lily as the only lead to finding Shinkuro, Ryu confronted her, inadvertently learning the reason for Lily's actions as the Invisible Dopant. To Ryu's bewilderment, he found himself scolding Lily in same manner as Shotaro scolded him, causing Ryu remember his duties as Kamen Rider Accel. Reconciling with Philip and the others, Ryu redirected his focus on saving Lily, his priorities now properly adjusted
Although still adamant in being the one to defeat Shinkuro, Ryu's desire for vengeance has considerably loosened, with his devotion to justice now outweighing it. Finding another victim of Shinkuro's cruelty in Nagi, Ryu placed his focus on saving her, giving him the strength to master Accel Trial Form and finally defeat Shinkuro in battle.
No longer burdened by a need for revenge, Ryu became more open to others, if still refusing to answer any questions asked. Noticeably, Ryu is now more prone to goofy moments, such as opting to run away from doing a kissing scene in a movie, only to later on forcibly kiss Shotaro in a moment of madness (then laughing in hysteria). Evidently, Ryu's hatred for Futo City has been fully resolved, feeling a sense of gratitude toward its benevolent inhabitants.
In Movie War Core DC version, he was terrified a bit when Akiko develops a "Kamen Rider allergy" (hating Kamen Riders) by stating "The goal of the wedding is despair" and laughed like a maniac for a bit, shocking Philip and Shotaro.
In Kamen Rider Drive V-Cinema Chaser Saga, Ryu is shown to have retained his previous attitude in Kamen Rider W, acting in a serious and very intimidating manner towards Shinnosuke and his group. Nonetheless, his care for others also remain prevalent, with Ryu openly encouraging Shinnosuke and Go to rescue Chase in his time of need. In a more humorous note, Ryu revealed himself to be very dotting towards his daughter, speaking in a somewhat uncharacteristically sweet tone with her.
In his Rider form, Ryu tends to say "Now, let's break away!" (さあ、振り切るぜ!, Saa, furikiru ze!) whenever he assumes his Rider forms and states "Despair awaits you (all) at the finish!" (絶望がお前（たち）のゴールだ!, Zetsubō ga omae (-tachi) no gōru da!, as Accel) and "[0.1-9.9] seconds, that is the time left until your despair!" (○○秒、それがお前の絶望までのタイムだ！, [0.1-9.9]-byō, sore ga omae no zetsubō made no taimu'da!, as Accel Trial) upon executing a Maximum Drive attack. The words on the back of his jacket read "spiritual state of nothingness makes even fire itself cool" which is a phrase derived from Buddhist philosophy.

- Expert Detective: As a police detective of the Futo PD's Paranormal Crime Investigation Division, Ryu has proven himself as a highly skilled detective with great skills.
- Expert Martial Artist: As a police detective, Ryu is an expert in unarmed combat, having gone through the training that all Futo PD members do. His combat skills gradually enhanced as he fought against numerous Dopants as Kamen Rider Accel throughout the series. Even without transformed, he has proven to be an expert hand-to-hand combatant, being able to effectively fight against and knock out numerous thugs with ease.

Like Kamen Rider Double, Ryu Terui transforms into Kamen Rider Accel (仮面ライダーアクセル, Kamen Raidā Akuseru) through the use of USB flash drive-like objects called Gaia Memories. However, Accel only has access to a single form with which he fights through the use of the Accel Memory which he inserts into the Acceldriver.
Kamen Rider Accel consists of the following parts:
- Moto Shell Met (モトシェルメット, Moto Sheru Metto): Accel's helmet.
- Accelerator Regulator (アクセルレギュレーター, Akuseru Regyurētā): It has a filtering function that purifies all toxins and makes it breathable. Purified oxygen taken in can accumulate in large amounts in chest rungs.
- Protection Frame (プロテクトフレーム, Purotekuto Furēmu): A shield protector with a strength comparable to the Gaia Shell in the mount part of the Moto Shield. It is designed to be directly connected to the Ace Filler, and this part itself also acts as a super sensory organ.
- Moto Shield (モトシールド, Moto Shīrudo): A tough anti-bullet glass-like shield that doesn't leave a scratch even when hit by automatic rifles.
- Ace Filler (エースフィーラー, Ēsu Fīrā):The huge horns, reminiscent of the shape of A, act as transcendental sensory organs, allowing Accel to perceive even the slightest movement of air in 360 degrees around the accelerator, enabling flawless attacks and defenses.
- Gaia Shell (ガイアシェル, Gaia Sheru): A strengthened-strong head exoskeleton that protects the head of Kamen Rider Accel. Formed with a 5-layer laminated skeleton, it is the part of Axel's body that boasts the highest defensive strength.
- Face Flasher (Behind the Shield) (フェイスフラッシャー(シールド奥), Feisu Furasshā (Shīrudo Oku)):
- Gaia Sonar (ガイアソナー, Gaia Sonā): Super-hearing organ that can be adjusted to achieve very high hearing. It can distinguish the sound of a falling needle 10 km away and can even distinguish high-frequency sounds inaudible to humans.
- Color Shield (カラーシールド, Karā Shīrudo): Strong neck protector that protects Accel's neck.
- Aero Lung (エアロラング, Earo Rangu): A reinforced exoskeleton part with built-in converter rungs. The converter lung increases Terui Ryu's cardiopulmonary functions to dozens of times that of a normal person, enabling him to work for 15 hours even in an oxygen-free space.
- Shoulder Cowl (ショルダーカウル, Shorudā Kauru): A reinforced exoskeleton that protects the shoulder area. It has extremely high strength and is an effective weapon when performing shoulder tackles and other striking techniques.
- Riding Armor (ライディングアーマー, Raidingu Āmā): A reinforced skin in which Ryu Terui's body has been transformed by the power of the Gaia Memory. It has the same strength and flexibility as Kamen Rider W Cyclone Joker. His entire body has an organ called Flex-Lit (フレックスリット, Furekkusu Ritto), which discharges excess energy generated by Gaia Memory and maintains the stability of his body.
- Arm Accelling (アームアクセリング, Āmu Akuseringu):
- Armor Frame (アーマーフレーム, Āmā Furēmu): An auxiliary frame generated from the waist to the legs of Accel, which serves to stabilize body shake during Bike Form.
- Hammer Slider (ハンマースライダー, Hanmā Suraidā): A reinforced exoskeleton that protects Kamen Rider Accel's knees. It has the same hardness as the shoulder cowl, and can be used as a powerful striking weapon when a knee strike is performed.
- Exhaust Muzzle (エクゾーストマズル, Ekuzōsuto Mazuru): When the Maximum Drive is activated, the amplified power of Gaia memory is released all at once from the two energy outlets on the soles of the feet, and tremendous kicking power is obtained.
- Moto Frame (モーターフレーム, Mōtā Furēmu): The part that forms the front frame when Kamen Rider Accel transforms into his Bike Form. It has both strong rigidity and flexibility.
- Radiator Lung (ラジエターラング, Rajietā Rangu): An organ that forcibly inhales air to cool the intense heat energy generated by Gaia memory. This allows Terui Ryu to operate his accelerator body without stress.
- Accel Driver (アクセルドライバー, Akuseru Doraibā): A bike throttle type memory driver used by Ryu Terui when transforming into Kamen Rider Accel. By inserting the Accel Memory into the slot, Ryu Terui's body is changed and Kamen Rider Accel's body is generated.
- Wheel Shield (ホイールシールド, Hoīru Shīrudo): When transforming into Bike Form, the left and right sides can be jointed to form a rear tire, and when in rider form, the ankle becomes a strong shield that protects the ankle from side impacts.
- Leg Accelling (レッグアクセリング, Reggu Akuseringu): An amplification organ that amplifies the power obtained from the Accel Memory and gives Accel leg strength that surpasses ordinary people.
- Land Wheel (Back) (ランドホイール(背面), Rando Hoīru (Haimen)): The part that becomes the front tire when in Bike Form. It also has a high level of protection and functions as a back shield to prevent attacks from the rear.

- Acceldriver finisher:
- Accel Glanzer (アクセルグランツァー, Akuseru Gurantsā): After charging up to a point when Accel is engulfed in orange flames, he executes a jumping spinning heel kick. This can be used with Double FangJoker's Fang Strizer to perform the Rider Twin Maximum (ライダーツインマキシマム, Raidā Tsuin Makishimamu) finisher.
- Engineblade finishers:
- After inserting the Engine Memory in the Engineblade, Accel can perform two finishers
- A-Slasher (エースラッシャー, Ē Surasshā): Accel delivers a concentration of energy in the shape of the letter A.
- Dynamic Ace (ダイナミックエース, Dainamikku Ēsu): This finisher has two variations.
- Accel performs three consecutive slashes that form the letter A in a horizontal or vertical plane, slashing through the enemy to destroy it.
- Accel heats the Engineblade before delivering a red energy slash to the opponent. He then spins away while delivering additional slashes, causing an energy letter A to appear on the enemy. After a brief delay, the enemy explodes.
- Unnamed finisher: After inserting the Cyclone Memory in the Engineblade, Accel unleashes a series of wind-powered slashes.
- After inserting the Engine Memory in the Engineblade, Accel can perform two finishers

Kamen Rider Accel BikeForm
The power of the Accel Memory allows Accel to change into a motorcycle-like form called Kamen Rider Accel BikeForm (仮面ライダーアクセル バイクフォーム, Kamen Raidā Akuseru Baiku Fōmu). This form is accessed by removing the Acceldriver buckle from the belt when the Face Flasher (フェイスフラッシャー, Feisu Furasshā) lights up. Bike form can also combine with Double's Boilder, Turbler, and Splasher units to become the AccelBoilder (can be done with Start Dash mode as well), AccelTurbler, and AccelSplasher.

This form's finisher is the Gunner Full Break (ガンナーフルブレイク, Gannā Furu Bureiku): A powerful energy blast from the Gaia Cannon.

AccelBoilder
BikeForm can also combine with Revolgarry's Boilder unit to become the AccelBoilder (アクセルボイルダー, Akuseru Boirudā) with Start Dash Mode (スタートダッシュモード, Sutāto Dasshu Mōdo), as well.
This form was not shown in the series and exists only in the toyline.
AccelTurbuler (アクセルタービュラー, Akuseru Tāburā): Kamen Rider Accel BikeForm can combine with the Revolgarry's Turbuler unit to become the AccelTurbuler.
Not only does Accel have use of the Scramble Cutter (スクランブルカッター, Sukuranburu Kattā) guns, he can also assume a humanoid form for combat.
This form's finisher is the AccelTurbuler Phoenix (アクセルタービュラーフェニックス, Akuseru Tāburā Fenikkusu): Accel pierces through his target while covered in flames forming the English letter A.
This form is exclusive to W Episode 46.

Kamen Rider Accel Trial (仮面ライダーアクセルトライアル, Kamen Raidā Akuseru Toraiaru) is the final form of Kamen Rider Accel. This form sacrifices the weight of Accel's default armor, leading to a significant reduction in its parameters. However, this drawback is compensated by the ultra-high-speed movement abilities of this form, enabling attacks at blinding speeds to a great extent.
Once the Maximum Drive is initiated, Accel can only be used for another 10 seconds before being forcibly reverted back to human form, but the transformation is retained if the Trial Maximum Drive is successful before the 10 seconds are up.
While transforming from into Accel Trial, Accel changes colors from red, to yellow, and then finally to blue as Accel Trial. The yellow colored form has been labeled as Kamen Rider Accel Yellow Signal Version in the toy line.
This form has two finishers. These finishers leave a series of energy treadmarks in the form of a T and are only limited by the amount of attacks Accel uses before time runs out.
- Trial Memory finisher:
- Machine Gun Spike (マシンガンスパイク, Mashingan Supaiku): A series of multiple kicks in a row.
- Trial Memory + Engineblade finisher:

Kamen Rider AccelBooster (仮面ライダーアクセルブースター, Kamen Raidā Akuseru Būsutā) is the extra final form of Kamen Rider Accel. This yellow-colored form of Accel uses the Gaia Memory Enhancing Adapter stolen from the Commander Dopant, which is attached over the top of the Accel Memory to increase its power output threefold.
AccelBooster's most notable feature is its additional armoring compared to Accel Trial, which hides a plethora of jet boosters enabling Accel to fly with great mobility, leaving large contrails of fire due to the tripled thermal energy output.
Like Accel's other forms, it can utilize the Engineblade.
This form's finisher is the Booster Slasher (ブースタースラシャー, Būsutā Surasshā): After inserting the Engine Memory in the Engineblade, Accel projects a large golden energy blade to slice through the target.

Kamen Rider Double CycloneAccelXtreme
Kamen Rider Double CycloneAccelXtreme (仮面ライダーW サイクロンアクセルエクストリーム, Kamen Raidā Daburu Saikuron Akuseru Ekusutorīmu) is a hypothetical form of Kamen Rider Double described by Shroud as being the ultimate form, with the change being that Ryu Terui becomes one with Philip instead of Shotaro, as their physiology make them immune to the psychological attacks of the Old and Terror Dopants. Shroud states that Ryu's hatred and rage is needed for Double to fight at its full potential. However this form was never utilized in the series as Ryu decides not to fight as part of this form while showing Shroud that they can fight with compassion rather than hatred.

Ryu Terui is portrayed by Minehiro Kinomoto (木ノ本 嶺浩, Kinomoto Minehiro). In Kamen Rider × Super Sentai: Super Hero Taisen, Kamen Rider Accel is voiced by Koji Yusa (遊佐 浩二, Yusa Kōji), who voices Urataros in Kamen Rider Den-O. As Kamen Rider Accel, his suit actor was Eitoku (永徳).
In KAMEN RIDER: memory of heroez and Fuuto PI, Ryu is voiced by Makoto Furukawa (古川 慎, Furukawa Makoto).

- Ryu is the first secondary Rider to make his debut in a movie instead of an episode of his series.
- He is the first and only Secondary Rider to have his own opening sequence (much similar to his counterpart's) but its theme song is Leave all Behind. It only appears in Kamen Rider W Returns: Kamen Rider Accel, in which Terui is the protagonist in the movie.
- Ryu's backstory is an homage to Shiro Kazami (Kamen Rider V3), as both of them lost their parents and younger sister to evil and initially fought for revenge before becoming more noble individuals thanks to their interaction with other Riders (the Double Riders and Kamen Rider Double respectively).
- The connection is referenced in the Climax Heroes game series, where the tag team of V3 and Accel is named "Father, Mother, Little Sister" (a line from "Tatakae! Kamen Rider V3"). A nod also appears in Super Hero Taisen GP: Kamen Rider 3
, in which V3 is shown to destroy a Shocker-affiliated Weather Dopant.
