Zi-O |
This article is about a Rider in Kamen Rider Zi-O. |
In 2005, Kyosuke Kiriya (桐矢 京介, Kiriya Kyōsuke) was Hibiki's apprentice, who transformed into Transformed Kyosuke (京介変身体, Kyōsuke Henshintai).
Later in 2019, he inherits the name Hibiki (ヒビキ ), and using the Hibiki Ridewatch, he temporarily becomes Kamen Rider Hibiki (仮面ライダー響鬼, Kamen Raidā Hibiki , lit. "Masked Rider Echoing Demon").
History[]
Kamen Rider Zi-O[]
2005: Rejoice! Echo! Roar![]
- "My name is Kiriya Kyosuke...I am Hibiki."
- ―Kyosuke introduces himself to Sougo and his friends[src]
Kyosuke meets Sougo and Geiz after their first encounter with Todoroki who was engaged in battle with Another Hibiki. After Another Hibiki escapes, Sougo and Geiz examines the nature of Another Hibiki and their quest to acquire the Ridewatches to Kyosuke, who in turn advises them to train to acquire Hibiki's power.
Kyosuke monitors Sougo, Geiz, and Woz as they train. Watching Sougo falter during his training, Kyosuke questions Sougo's goals. Upon learning Sougo's dream to become a king, Kyosuke advises him to abandon his dream if he didn't take it seriously.
When Another Hibiki resurfaces, Kyosuke reveals Another Hibiki to be his apprentice Tsutomu Tsuzumiya as he transforms and attacks Geiz and Sougo, wishing to protect his pupil and resolve this situation by himself. [2005: Rejoice! Echo! Roar!]
2019: Heisei Oni, Reiwa Oni[]
As Kyosuke is fighting Geiz to protect Tsutomu, the latter attacks his master, undoing his transformation. Kyosuke then manages to reason his pupil, who is then put to the ground by Geiz. As Heure is disappointed by the fact Kyosuke is not Hibiki after all these years, he leaves the scene with Tsutomu.
Todoroki explains to Kyosuke why he hasn't become Hibiki after all these years; he isn't actually following the rules of the Oni as properly as requested, for him not to be severe enough towards Tsutomu.
Refusing to talk about why he is not Hibiki, Sougo reveals to him that Tsutomu was one of his classmates, saying Kyosuke is no other than the "Master Hibiki" Tsutomu was constantly talking about. However, Kyosuke still refuses to say anything about it. Sougo and Tsukuyomi then leave for Todoroki, who might be open to talk.
Eating with Geiz and Jun'ichiro, Kyosuke finds Tsutomu's school note on the table. He then decides to go meet his pupil again, after reading about his dream of becoming an Oni. Quickly, Geiz is seen fighting Tsutomu, with Kyosuke still protecting him. The struggle of both would lead them to be beaten down by Tsutomu. As Sougo joins the battle, Kyosuke ends up being injured, with Tsutomu running away once more.
Away, Kyosuke finally accepts to tell what's on his mind; he is after all these years still not able to match the late Hibiki's level to become an Oni, for whatever reason.
- "Hibiki was someone who never gave up. Truly a man, a strong one. I aimed for him.
- Tsutomu was the same, you know?" - ―Kyosuke and Sougo[src]
With Kyosuke denying the fact he's someone to aim for, as he lied to everyone about being Hibiki, Sougo confirms Tsutomu thinks of him as the actual Hibiki, and nothing less. The two men now decide to save Tsutomu from the Time Jackers.
Telling all the truth to Tsutomu, Kyosuke is now determined to make use of his goodwilled strength to save his pupil. This manages to manifest Hibiki powers into the Blank RideWatch he had in his pocket, after he was granted access to these powers. Using the RideWatch, Kyosuke finally becomes Kamen Rider Hibiki. With the aid of Zi-OTrinity, the new Hibiki now purifies the Another Hibiki, detroying the Hibiki AnotherWatch.
After the battle, Kyosuke is giving the RideWatch to the future King. To resolve that, Kyosuke decides, akin to Todoroki with Zanki in the past, to become his own Oni instead of relying to the Hibiki powers. Annoucing that his training is harsh, he accepts Tsutomu's request of becoming his pupil once again. [2019: Heisei Oni, Reiwa Oni]
2007: DenLiner Crash![]
While Kyosuke does not appear in the Den-O arc, he is briefly mentioned. When Yuto Sakurai arrives in 2019, prepared to fight Zi-O, Sougo briefly mistook Yuto for Kyosuke. [2007: DenLiner Crash!]
Personality[]
In Zi-O, Kyosuke has grown into a more responsible man, but still has an arrogant personality, which he uses as a tactic to urge others to improve themselves. He has become a teacher, trying hard to live up Hibiki's reputation. However, he becomes less ambitious, and warns Sougo to be careful with keeping his dream, likely mirroring his failure on educating his student who had just become Another Hibiki.
Fighting Style[]
Being trained just like how Hibiki trained himself, Kyosuke used the similar fighting style as him although he lacked agility and was easily to get hit. So far, he is only seen to master the taiko style.

The Oni form of Kyosuke, alternatively referred as Kamen Rider Kyoki (仮面ライダー強鬼, Kamen Raidā Kyōki) [Fighting Man]. To become this form, Kyosuke simply needs to tap his tuning fork against a solid surface, the vibrations from the fork causing his body to be engulfed in a fiery cyan aura. Kyosuke also gains a second "oni face" which is a crest that forms on his forehead. Unlike most Kamen Riders, Kyosuke does not wear a suit; rather his demon form is his true form. Kyosuke first assumed this form in the final episode of Kamen Rider Hibiki, although his inexperience with the form lead to a quick defeat. He would continue to use this form in the following years, eventually becoming a teacher to other potential Oni.

Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
Kyosuke Kiriya is portrayed by Yuichi Nakamura, who also portrayed Yuto Sakurai in Kamen Rider Den-O, a role which he also reprised in Zi-O. As Transformed Kiriya & Kamen Rider Hibiki, his suit actor is Eitoku (永徳 ).
Notes[]
- Sougo Tokiwa mistaking Yuto Sakurai for Kyosuke Kiriya is a sort of a meta-joke in-series, due to both of the characters being portrayed by Yuichi Nakamura.
