"Too Cool to Be Mom" is the 14th episode of the fifth season of Pepper Ann. It aired on November 13, 2000.

Synopsis[]

Pepper Ann tries to make her mom cool after seeing Constance Goldman's mother.

Plot[]

Pepper Ann arrives at school to overhear the other girls talking about someone cool named "Denise" whom Pepper Ann cannot help, but wonder about. Denise turns out to be Constance Goldman's mom, whom she refers to by her first name. Pepper Ann is perturbed by the fact that someone has a mom who is cool, as she believes that moms should not be cool. When Nicky and Milo point out that Lydia is just perfect the way she is, Pepper Ann takes that as a challenge and decides to make Lydia cool and make her feel like her best friend.

Pepper Ann begins to refer to her mom as "The Lydster" and speak in current slang. Lydia, wanting to bond with Pepper Ann, attempts to emulate it by dressing in different clothing and becomes proud of her wanting to be her "best friend", even though it is mostly for selfish reasons. Pepper Ann tells her friends that "The Lydster" can get them tickets to an R-rated film. Lydia, obviously says no, and instead takes them to Brain Dead. Constance reveals that she is having a sleep over at her house and Pepper Ann insists that she and Lydia will be there.

At the sleepover, the girls watch a movie and have fun with Denise giving a scary story to tell. Suddenly, Trinket complains about a kernel in her teeth, Cissy begins to choke and Constance hyperventilates. Denise is at a loss of what to do, but Lydia swoops in to help the girls and then offers to make cookies. Denise asks Constance if she would like her to be like that, but Constance is proud of who she is. Pepper Ann goes into the kitchen and Lydia tells her that she will go back to being a regular mom, which Pepper Ann is happy to hear.
