"Impractical Jokes" is the 20th episode of the second season of Pepper Ann. It aired on December 26, 1998.

Synopsis[]

Pepper Ann, Milo and Nicky compete in a practical joke-off, but Pepper Ann turns the simple joke-off into an all-out war.

Plot[]

Pepper Ann, Milo and Nicky watch their favorite show Lafftown, U.S.A. and laugh at the ridiculous pranks. Lydia does not think any of them are funny, but then laughs at one of them. They agree that it is only funny if everyone is laughing. At school the next day, the friends all pull a prank on one another in the classroom, resulting in Pepper Ann declaring a prank war among them. Dieter acts as the referee for each "round", though each one results in him getting a detention slip due to causing a scene.

Pepper Ann, Milo, and Nicky continue to pull pranks on one another to the delight of their classmates. Constantly getting bested by the others, Pepper Ann decides to up the ante and begins to make harsher pranks on her friends to the point that they become concerned. Lydia invites everyone to their house to talk to Pepper Ann and she reveals her fear of seeing her daughter become a hack comic. They produce a cease fire contract, but Pepper Ann, still believing she is funny, falsely signs it and plans to pull another prank at Nicky's recital.

Pepper Ann pulls an elaborate prank that seemingly results in Nicky becoming traumatized and Milo going deaf. Nobody laughs, but Pepper Ann believes she is still funny. The next day, she learns that Nicky is moving away after being humiliated and Pepper Ann becomes despondent. It is quickly revealed that this too was a prank set up by the whole school and Lydia who said she needed a taste of her own medicine. Pepper Ann apologizes to Milo and Nicky by giving them a pair of plungers and revealing the further pranks she had planned.
