"P.A.'s Pop Fly" is the 22nd episode of the fourth season of Pepper Ann. It aired on February 20, 2000.
Synopsis[]
Pepper Ann catches a star baseball player's pop fly during a game and must choose to either sell it for big bucks or return it to the player, who wants it to commemorate the best moment of his life.
Plot[]
Pepper Ann thinks that baseball is boring and is mortified to learn that for Chuck's current visit, she is attending a baseball game with him. To her own surprise, Pepper Ann really gets into the game, but she and Chuck get caught in a bout with a baseball that was hit by Shelby "Gelby" Strickmeyer. Pepper Ann cares very little for the fact that they caught the ball and was simply angered over the fact that she missed the final inning. Nevertheless, they are approached by Tom Molly, a baseball promoter who drives them home and suggests that they sell the ball.
While Chuck thinks selling the ball will make them financially secure, Pepper Ann begins to feel sympathy for Gelby and believes they should return it. They have a friendly debate over the issue with Pepper Ann stating that it would not feel right to keep it as this was an important moment for Gelby and that keeping the ball would deprive him of his historical achievement. Later, Chuck discovers that Lydia held onto a game ball he had caught in their youth, claiming that she tried to flush it, but that it would not go down.
Pepper Ann and Chuck wait to see Tom try to sell the ball to a potential buyer, but is unimpressed with the offers. Realizing how greedy the situation is, Chuck offers to buy Tom's first dollar. When he refuses, due to how precious it is to him, Chuck explains that that is why they cannot sell it and leave. They contact Gelby who shows up at their house and thanks them for the ball while giving them all year passes to his games and a giant barrel of oil from his first job. After he leaves, the Pearsons decide to use the oil for dinner.
