Scattering the Bait (餌を撒いとこ Esa o Maitoko?) is the hundred seventy-sixth chapter of the Dandadan manga series.
Summary[]
Kouki shares her feelings of discomfort about changing out of her school uniform, as her own is no longer usable after being coated with white from the fire extinguisher. Following Aira's comment regarding her consistently sad face, Kouki retorts by asking Aira to be quiet. Kinta then proudly points out the surveillance camera hair accessory he crafted from nanoskin for her, intended to reveal the identity of the individual who provided her with the knife. Observing Kinta's recovery, Jiji remarks on his improvement, to which Kinta attributes his enhanced well-being to a single touch from Queen. Jiji then conjectures that this may indicate the nurse possesses some form of power. Following Momo's directive for the group to maintain their distance from Kouki until their target is ensnared, Momo inquiries about Okarun's well-being upon observing his despondent demeanor. Okarun reflects on their unsuccessful attempt to restore her to her original state after locating the pygmies and apologizes to Momo for not being helpful, prompting a vow to himself to strive for improvement. Momo disagrees with Okarun on this opinion of himself but suggests receiving training from Seiko to fulfill his vow.
At a restaurant, Seiko meets with two men: Payase, a collector of cursed objects, whose latest collection is a painting that ignites fires in his home, and his partner Kashimoto, who tends to irritate him. While requesting for Payase to hold onto the Fairy-Tale Card's cursed trunk, to which he gladly accepts, Seiko inquires to Kashimoto if he has any knowledge of how to turn a pygmy back to normal size, explaining that her granddaughter became shrunken after her release from the cursed trunk. Kashimoto informs Seiko that he does and that the solution is the Uchide-no-kozuchi, a magical hammer in possession of the deity Daikokuten that was said to had turn Issun-boshi after he swung it. He further explains that Daikokuten and the revered god Okuninushi are the same entity, and directs Seiko to the Izumo Grand Shrine as her destination. Grateful for the information, Seiko prepares to leave, but as Kashimoto offers his assistance, he is abruptly kicked away by a jiangshi among a group of similar creatures.
