Send Boo off to say hello and give your rivals a good ghosting.

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Jump Scare is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Projectile Item used primarily to attack rivals.

Description[]

The Jump Scare takes the form of a Boo followed by a blue ghostly aura. In gameplay, the Jump Scare takes on a similar appearance as its icon.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Jump Scare can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Mummy Knuckles. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Jump Scare if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Jump Scare by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the user sets loose a Boo that travels down the lane they were deployed on in front of the user. After flying down the lane for a moment though, the Boo will ricochet in the opposite direction on the lane they are on. Opponents caught in the path of the Jump Scare will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily, as will as their screen becoming temporarily obfuscated with several Boo. In addition, the Jump Scare can travel through obstacles and will continue moving after hitting rival characters. To avoid the Jump Scare, the playable character has to step out of its lane.

The Jump Scare can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6 and 12 respectively. For each upgrade, the damage of the Jump Scare will increase.
