Bonus Events, also known as Bonus Missions, are a series of special events that occur within Sonic Forces: Speed Battle and were introduced on 12 December 2023 during the 4.23.0 update. They were added to allow players to obtain cards of characters who do not regularly appear as a weekly special event.

Description[]

Much like normal events within Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, event missions can be found within the event tab of the game. They are found underneath the week's current special event. Initially, they will appear locked but they can be unlocked by the player, which will then have them act identical to any other event panel.

Overview[]

In order to gain access to Bonus Events, the player must first unlock them. This can be done by clicking on its locked status which will then send the player to an advertisement. If the player successfully watches this, the bonus event will become available for eight hours in whereby it will be locked once more and will need to be unlocked in the same way as it was initially (or by using Red Star Rings). Alternatively, as of the 4.27.0 update, they can also be unlocked for 10 star rings and follow the same rules as if they were opned with an advertisement. Upon unlocking, the way to gather cards is the exact same as any normal mission. The player will be asked to complete a short task before being allowed to open a chest with cards in. This chest is always blue. Upon opening, if the event has multiple characters, they will cycle around so each time a different character's cards can be acquired.

The amount of cards a player can get for the characters depends on their rarity. So far, there have only been rare, special, and challenger characters. Rare characters give the player between 2-15 cards when their task is completed while special and challenger characters give the player between 5-25 cards.

The weekly character(s) for the Bonus Events are announced at the same time as the normal mission events at (11:00 UTC), and their rewards regularly go into Tails' vault. Like the main event, they typically release three days after their announcement, at (11:00 UTC).

Trivia[]

  • Initially, only Elite Agent Rouge & Treasure Hunter Knuckles' event did not have their rewards added to Tails' Vault, perhaps suggesting that the feature was added per high demand after their event.
    • This was later revisited with Ice Slicer Jet, whose rewards also are not added to the vault for undefined reasons.
  • Whisper and Tangle are the first non-special bonus event characters to have bonus events.
  • Lucky Whisper's event is the first to only contain one character.
  • Treasure Hunter Knuckles and Elite Agent Rouge are the first repeat characters in bonus events.
    • Unlike their initial event, their rewards were added to Tails' vault in the rerun.
  • Tidal Wave's event is the first to have rings as a obtainable reward.
  • Red and Chuck are the first characters to appear immediately as a bonus event after their addition to the game.
    • They are also the first bonus event characters to feature for two weeks in a row. Additionally, they then became the first to feature three weeks in a row.
  • So far, Sir Percival is the only Sonic and the Black Knight character not to appear in a bonus event.
  • The "Shadow", Modern and Classic Sonic bonus event held in late October 2024 is a reference to the three playable characters of Sonic X Shadow Generations, which released three days prior. The background itself is directly taken from said game.
  • The bonus missions for Dragon Hunter Lancelot, Sir Lancelot, and Vampire Shadow mark the first time that not all characters available from the bonus missions were shown on the bonus missions' graphics.
