Starman is an uncommon enemy who first appeared in Kirby's Adventure. He is best described as a bulbous yellow star-shaped creature with no face, a head that splits in two, and a gem-inset cape. His typical behavior involves walking around casually on the ground and jumping upwards at random times. He will also occasionally fly around horizontally with his arms out in front. This makes him similar to a stereotypical flying superhero.

Starmen are mostly found in areas which involve long vertical passages, as well as appearing during the battles with Kracko and Mecha-Kracko. When Kirby inhales a Starman, he receives the Hi-Jump Copy Ability, and is the only source in the series for said ability outside of a Mix or Copy Essence. Unlike many other enemies, Starmen do not seem to react differently when Kirby is nearby.

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

Starman makes his debut in Kirby's Adventure, and appears again in the remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. This is where his general look and behavior was established.

Starman is a semi-frequent foe, and his appearance often means that a Hi-Jump puzzle is afoot. Starman can be found in the following levels and stages:

Kirby's Dream Course[edit]

Starman appears in Kirby's Dream Course as one of the enemies to bump into on the courses. He provides the Hi-Jump ability to Kirby when defeated.

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

In Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, Starman can be seen in the audience in the Megaton Punch sub-game. In Kirby Super Star only, he can also be found in the fight against King Dedede.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[edit]

Starman makes a small appearance in Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, where he can be seen flying slowly through the air before making a sudden burst of speed in Lvl 2-3. He can be easily defeated using an Air Bullet.

Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]

Starman appears as an uncommon enemy in Kirby: Squeak Squad, taking on his look and behavior from Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.

Starman can be possessed by Ghost Kirby. Unlike most other enemies, Starman gains an altered moveset when possessed. He gains the ability to fly in any direction, but he flies much faster when going upward, and is able to break through objects like Star Blocks while doing so. He cannot harm enemies without also taking damage, however.

Kirby Mass Attack[edit]

Starman appears in the Kirby Mass Attack Sub-Game Kirby Brawlball. Here, he occasionally flies across the main board and is worth 1,000 points if hit.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Starman makes his debut 3D appearance in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. He can be seen walking slowly, but will jump upward a fair distance after a specific amount of time. Sometimes he can be found flying back and forth in the air. Aside from this, he is not very dangerous. In this game's remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Starman behaves exactly the same. The only notable difference is that he is smaller than he was in the original game.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Starman appears as a randomly-obtained Keychain, represented by his sprite from Kirby: Squeak Squad. He does not appear in this game as an enemy.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe and Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

In Kirby Fighters Deluxe and its sequel Kirby Fighters 2, Starman is one of the enemies that can appear (in his original 8-bit form) on the Butter Building Battle Stage. Here, two of them walk in from either the left or right side of the stage and then perform a series of leaps and drops to and from the thin floor. They deal 12 damage to fighters on contact, and can be defeated with any attack.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Starman appears as a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, usable in The Subspace Emissary. It increases launch power by 33 points, but only works with Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]

Trivia[edit]

• The name "Starman" is sometimes used for the invincibility powerup from the Mario games. An enemy of the same name also appears in the EarthBound / Mother series.
