Super Bonkers is a slightly stronger version of the Mid-Boss Bonkers who debuts in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. He is unique in that he is a Mid-Boss that yields a Super Ability, whereas all the other Super Abilities are yielded by normal enemies.

Appearance and characteristics[edit]

Super Bonkers EX

Aesthetically, Super Bonkers retains his regular counterpart’s purple-maroon armor jacket, but he now has red trimmings that look like flames adorning his sleeves. Like the other Super Ability enemies, he has a star on his hair, and a multicolored aura around his body. Super Bonkers also wears black pants with light black detailing stylized as flames near the cuffs. He also wields a slightly pink-hued hammer, as opposed to Bonkers' standard hammer.

Upon his defeat, Super Bonkers will yield Kirby the Grand Hammer super ability. Super Bonkers cannot be directly inhaled to get Grand Hammer because he explodes immediately upon defeat, leaving the Grand Hammer Ability Star behind. The Ability Star itself can be inhaled or merely touched to obtain the ability. Since Super Bonkers is a Mid-Boss, he does not respawn upon leaving and returning, unlike the other Super Ability enemies.

In Extra Mode, Super Bonkers' armored jacket is black with orange flame-shaped trimmings. His hair and pants are red and the trimmings on the pants are orange like the ones on his sleeves. Super Bonkers EX also has a hammer with a gray tone to it. The wooden section of it is red, however.

Even though Super Bonkers is a Mid-Boss, he is not fought in The Arena or The True Arena. This is likely because these modes do not use Super Abilities, and even if he did not yield one, he is effectively just a variation of regular Bonkers.

Attacks[edit]

Super Bonkers retains all of the attacks that his regular counterpart uses, both in Story Mode and Extra Mode. The following is a list of them. Attack names are pulled from official strategy guides concerning Bonkers' appearances in Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Kirby: Planet Robobot.

Super Bonkers' attacks in Kirby's Return to Dream Land
Attack Description Variants
ハンマーたたき
Hammer
Super Bonkers raises his hammer, then swings it down in front of him. Bonkers may use this attacks several times in succession, and may turn around to face a Kirby behind him.
ココナッツ爆弾
Coconut Bomb
Super Bonkers tosses Coconuts ahead of him, which land on the ground and then detonate shortly afterward. These Coconuts can be destroyed with an attack. Super Bonkers throws one in the first phase and three in the second phase. Super Bonkers EX always throws three, and some of the Coconuts might be extra large.
ジャイアントスイング
Hammer Swing
Super Bonkers begins spinning rapidly with his hammer out, and travels across the stage. Super Bonkers EX may swing for only a brief moment.
ジャンププレス
Stomp Jump
Super Bonkers performs a large jump across the stage and lands somewhere else.
おにごろし火炎ハンマー
Hammer Flip
Super Bonkers charges up and unleashes a huge fiery upward swing which does substantial damage to anyone hit by it. Even guarding still causes a fair amount of damage to be taken.
空中ジャイアントスイング
Aerial Hammer Swing
Super Bonkers EX begins spinning rapidly in the air, throwing out one large and two small Coconuts as he does.

Trivia[edit]

  • Super Bonkers is not the only provider of Grand Hammer. Kirby can also obtain the ability from a glowing hammer thrown out by Magolor EX during his boss fight.
  • Due to the nature of Bonkers' appearances resulting in him having less health or significance, Super Bonkers, while not technically stronger than regular Bonkers, appears to be tougher in practice.
