Oh no! Oh no! What do we do?!
— Sailor Waddle Dee in Revenge of Meta Knight - Chapter 1, Kirby Super Star Ultra

Sailor Waddle Dee is a minor character who first appeared in Kirby Super Star (and later in its remake) in Revenge of Meta Knight. They are a Waddle Dee who wear a sailor's cap. Sailor Waddle Dee never directly interacts with Kirby, and is usually only present through their dialogue in Revenge of Meta Knight, or in the background in their other appearances.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Sailor Waddle Dee first appears in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, where they are one of the characters exchanging dialogue with the others during gameplay in Revenge of Meta Knight. Their role is more introspective, in contrast with the other characters trying to stop Kirby from boarding and destroying the Halberd. They are sometimes absent-minded, such as when they accidentally reveal the secret to destroying the Reactor.

Sailor Waddle Dee is not seen in the stages proper. Additionally, they have the least amount of dialogue of the Halberd crew. However, they are the last one to stay when the other Meta-Knights abandon ship; they were the only witness to Meta Knight's duel with Kirby. While their fate is unclear, it is presumed that they safely escaped before the Halberd sank into the ocean.

Kirby Mass Attack[edit]

Sailor Waddle Dee reappears in Kirby Mass Attack, where they make a cameo in the Meta Knight battle of the Strato Patrol EOS sub-game. They are seen cheering for him alongside Bandana Waddle Dee.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

Sailor Waddle Dee makes a cameo appearance in Kirby: Planet Robobot as a unique sticker found in Patched Plains - Stage 3. Notably, this is the first time they are properly named as such in a Kirby game.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe[edit]

Sailor Waddle Dee reappears as a minor cameo in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, where they appear in the background of the village after Whispy Woods is defeated for the first time. They run about behind the Gem Apple tree, chasing butterflies.

Kirby Battle Royale[edit]

Main article: Costumes

In Kirby Battle Royale, a Headgear called Sailor Cap can be purchased for 1500 Battle Coins for Waddle Dee. The description states that the cap is "a favorite among those working on a certain battle ship", referencing the Halberd.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, Sailor Waddle Dee appears on one of the game's Character Treats, using their artwork from Kirby Super Star Ultra.

In the Kirby novel series[edit]

Unlike the rest of the Halberd's crew, Sailor Waddle Dee did not initially appear in the Kirby novel series at all. This is because Waddle Dee is established as an individual character in the novels' universe. After the Kirby Printer makes copies of him in Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!!, Waddle Dees become a species, and other distinguished Waddle Dees appear, such as Soldier Waddle Dee and the Waddle Dee Report Crew, albeit rarely at first. After Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Start Running to the New World!, even more distinguished Waddle Dees appear, including Wise Waddle Dee and Painting Waddle Dee. Even then, Sailor Waddle Dee had yet to make any proper appearances.

However, Sailor Waddle Dee was finally introduced in Kirby: Meta Knight and the Monster of the Magic Stone. In it, a Waddle Dee initially known as "Adventure Waddle Dee" (named after their love for adventure stories) plays a key role in the story, being invested in the adventure happening during the course of the novel. Their fascination with adventure drives a good part of the story, and in particular they create a plan that is critical to the defeat of King Flotzo. At the end of the novel, King Dedede notices they are still yearning for adventures and, knowing Dream Land is a pretty peaceful place, he fires Adventure Waddle Dee from the Waddle Dee group, and brings them to Meta Knight, who accepts to recruit them to his crew, liking the hard work he saw them do previously. The day after, King Dedede, Bandana Waddle Dee and the other Waddle Dees bid them farewell, and give them a sailor's cap, which they put on. When boarding the Halberd and officially joining his crew, Meta Knight names them "Sailor Waddle Dee".

Sailor Waddle Dee is briefly mentioned in Kirby: Snowy Mountain Nights are Eventful!: after joining the Halberd crew, he ended up indirectly making all Meta-Knights and Vul sick due to them eating too much in their usual tea parties. Sailor Waddle Dee was left in the Halberd to take care of the others, while Meta Knight went to join Kirby and company in the snowy mountains.
