DS-61-3, better known by his nickname Backstabber, is a minor antagonist in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, the first Star Wars movie.
Biography[]
At the Battle of Yavin, Rebel pilots launched an assault on the Death Star. Darth Vader chose Backstabber and Mithel as his wingmen. They chased Red Squadron, who aimed for the Death Star's thermal exhaust port. This vulnerability, a design flaw made purposely by Imperial scientist Galen Erso, could cause the station's destruction if hit precisely.
During the Battle of Yavin, Vader and other Imperial pilots exterminated most Rebel attackers except Luke Skywalker. As they targeted Skywalker, Han Solo, piloting the Millennium Falcon, intervened. He shot down Backstabber, startling Vader. This caused Mithel to accidentally clip Vader's ship before crashing into the Death Star. With his ship impaired, Vader retreated. Meanwhile, Skywalker successfully launched a torpedo into the Death Star's exhaust port, annihilating it.
