Sly Moore is a minor antagonist in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and one of the two main antagonists (alongside Emperor Palpatine) of the 2020 comic book series Darth Vader.
Moore was an Umbaran Force-sensitive who served as the Chief of Staff under the chancellorship of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine during the final years of the Galactic Republic. The Umbaran was one of the few people who were aware of Palpatine's dual identity as the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious. Throughout his time as Chancellor, Moore stood by Palpatine's side and supported his plot for the Sith to take control of the galaxy.
When Sidious succeeded in transforming the Republic into a Galactic Empire with himself installed as its Emperor, Moore was given a position of power in the new regime as the Emperor's closest Administrator.
Ever the Emperor's most enigmatic supporter, Moore was given many clandestine tasks by her master. Over twenty years after the formation of the Empire, Moore was tasked with hunting down the Sith Lord Darth Vader who had temporarily fallen out of the Emperor's favour. Although she failed, Sidious didn't care as he hadn't expected her to succeed.
She was portrayed by Sandi Finlay.
Biography[]
Servant of the Sith[]
Not much was known of Sly Moore's early life, except that she was an Umbaran native to the shadowy planet Umbara in the Expansion Region. She had a strong connection to the Force that allowed her to manipulate the minds of weak-willed individuals.
At some point she entered the political sphere of the Galactic Republic and became a supporter of the politician Sheev Palpatine. Palpatine was secretly Darth Sidious, a member of the Sith Order that had ruled the galaxy millennia ago. Sidious hoped to dismantle the corrupt Republic and the Jedi Order that protected it, replacing them with a totalitarian New Order which he would rule absolutely.
To facilitate his plans, Sidious became the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic. Moore allegedly blackmailed Sei Taria, the primary aide of the previous Chancellor Finis Valorum, to resign after the woman attempted to join Palpatine's retinue.
The Umbaran, who was one of the few people aware of Palpatine's plan, became the Supreme Chancellor's Chief of Staff and Senior Administrative Aide. Her role as Chief of Staff was to organize the Chancellor's schedule and decides who was allowed to meet with him. Alongside co-conspirator Vice Chancellor Mas Amedda, Moore often stood beside Sidious on the Chancellor's podium during sessions of the Galactic Senate in the Senate rotunda chamber.
During the Separatist Crisis, the Senate intended to vote on the Military Creation Act, but the decision was delayed after an attempt was made on Senator Padmé Amidala's life. Moore was present during a meeting between the Jedi Council and Palpatine in the latter's office in order to discuss the upcoming vote. When Mas Amedda escorted the Loyalist Committee into the office, Moore exited the room alongside several other Jedi present.
When Obi-Wan Kenobi discovered a clone and droid army, he contacted Amidala and his padawan, Anakin Skywalker, who forwarded his message to Palpatine's office in turn, where Moore, the Loyalist Committee, and the Jedi Council listened to his report. In the wake of the message, Moore was present in the session of the Galactic Senate in which Representative Jar Jar Binks of Naboo proposed that Palpatine be given emergency powers in order to combat the threat that the Confederacy posed.
Fall of the Republic[]
In the final days of the Republic, Sly Moore was among the aides that attended a performance of the Mon Calamari play Squid Lake alongside Palpatine at the Galaxies Opera House on Coruscant.
Moore sat next to the Chancellor and spoke with him during the performance until he dismissed her and the rest of his retinue upon the arrival of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. Sidious had spent the last few years manipulating Skywalker, whom he wanted to take as his new Sith Apprentice upon his rise to power.
Days later, the Jedi discovered Palpatine's true identity as the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and attempted to assassinate him in his office. After killing all of his attackers, Sidious used the opportunity to brand the Jedi as traitors to the Republic and ordered the Grand Army of the Republic to systematically execute all members of the Order throughout the galaxy.
Skywalker, who had since pledged his allegiance to Sidious and become the Sith Lord Darth Vader, assassinated the Separatist leaders and remotely shut down their droid armies on Palpatine's orders.
With the Clone Wars effectively over and the Jedi Order all but extinct, the Supreme Chancellor called for a special session of the Senate. Moore stood by Palpatine's side on the Chancellor's podium as he declared that in order to preserve peace and security in the forthcoming era, the Republic would be transformed into a Galactic Empire with himself as its Emperor.
Palpatine's New Order was placed into affect, and the galaxy fell firmly and secretly into the hands of the Sith. Moore was given a position of importance in the government as the Emperor's personal Administrator.
