Wo Dao (å€åˆ€?) has appeared multiple times through the series: in Soul Edge as one of Hwang's weapons, where it was called Nippon Blade in the Western versions of the game; in Soulcalibur II, where it was one of Raphael's unlockable weapons; in Soulcalibur III, where it was one of the weapons available to Arthur and other characters who used the Katana weapon; and in Soulcalibur VI, where it was once again one of the weapons available to Hwang and went by the name Wodao. Its design is slightly different in each of its appearances.

Nippon Blade (å€åˆ€?) is one of Hwang's weapons in Soul Blade.
It is unlocked by completing Episode 1 of Hwang's Edge Master mode. As a member of the Coastal Defense Force, Hwang was ordered to infiltrate a pirates' castle. As he was leaving, he gets spotted by a guard, Mitsurugi. After defeating Mitsurugi, he takes the Nippon Blade from him and quickly escapes from the castle before more guards arrive.

Much like the Stiletto, the short reach is not really an annoyance (unless you rely on horizontal attacks) due to Raphael's lunging movements and weak horizontal attacks. Then, Wo Dao can be considered as positive-only weapon. Seconded only by Soul Edge for Attack power (40%).

Most of them were used only for display, but among them were some that were actually used in battle. Even as far away as Europe, the sharpness and power of Japanese swords were well-known.

Soulcalibur VI[]
Description: The name of this blade means "A sword from the country of Wo"—"Wo" being the name used for Japan in the Ming Dynasty. Brought over from Japan via trade, this weapon was then widely produced on the mainland. It is said that wodao were a favorite of the famed general Qi Jiguang in his fight against pirates.
This particular blade is a masterpiece created by a Ming swordsmith. It was forged with the finest black sand collected from deep in the Kunlun mountains, and the steel was then coated in water and clay from a river flowing from a Kunlun peak. Infused with the very soul of the mainland, it rivals its Japanese cousins in sharpness and flexibility.
