Soulcalibur Legends (ソウルキャリバー レジェンズ Sourukyaribā Rejenzu?) is an adventure game for the Wii. It is a spin-off of the Soul series. The game features competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes in addition to the single-player story mode.

Characters[]

The story is a spin-off based around Siegfried Schtauffen's transformation into Nightmare. Seven playable characters are in the game. Nightmare and Cervantes make an appearance in the game but only as bosses. Assassin, Berserker and Lizardmen from Soulcalibur II also appear in the game as common enemies.

One day, he would break into the home of a soldier of the Ming Dynasty and discover an old sword—Soul Calibur. Afterwards, he would seek out to also conquer the Holy Roman Empire.

After Barbaros invades Buda, Hungary, Iska's sister would be killed while trying to help him escape from the Sultan's army. In despair for failing to protect his sister, he would change his name to Iska. After traveling to various different countries, Iska would meet Paracelsus, a professor who was dedicated to researching artificial humans such as homunculi, where he would be hired as the professor's janitor. As Paracelsus constantly fired his assistants, Iska would eventually become one, eventually learning alchemy. While Iska would be successful in creating an artificial human, it was nothing more than a lifeless doll that looked like his sister. Not satisfied with having a doll that looked like his sister, Iska would seek to resurrect her, and thus began to seek Soul Edge and Soul Calibur.

Stealing Paracelsus' notes and taking a non-living artificial human with him, he would head to the Holy Roman Empire, where he would meet the emperor—who was a man that was also obsessed with both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur—and become his jester. The emperor's obsession with the two swords would eventually lead Iska to kill him and replace him with the artificial human he created and putting a mask on it to hide its face, thus leading to the birth of the "Masked Emperor".

As Barbaros held Soul Edge, and Siegfried was too weak to defeat him, Iska would manipulate the young warrior and the other playable characters into defeating the Sultan in order to get the Cursed Sword for himself.

Story[]

Soulcalibur Legends takes place between Soul Edge and Soulcalibur. The game begins as Siegfried finds Soul Edge on a ship. He battles Cervantes on the deck of the ship. Later, Siegfried is tasked by the Masked Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire to find the remaining pieces of Soul Edge in order to use it to win the war against Barbaros of the Ottoman Empire.

The game was commonly believed to be non-canon until Soulcalibur VI tied in with it's plot.

Trivia[]

  • Despite Soulcalibur Legends taking place long before Soulcalibur III, the game reuses many of the assets and designs from the latter.
  • Many of the common enemies encountered throughout the game use the weapons and fighting styles of characters found in Soulcalibur III. For example, the Skeleton enemies are found to use Xianghua's moves and neutral stance.
  • The events of the first level differ from what is actually stated to happen in later games; in Soulcalibur Legends, Siegfried stumbles upon Soul Edge α on a docked pirate ship, before making way to Cervantes and defeating him, thus triggering the Evil Seed. In every other game, the story goes that Sophitia was the one battling Cervantes—who was wielding Soul Edge but had it split into two swords—but was injured after she managed to shatter one of his twin swords and had some of its shards pierce into her. Before the pirate could end Sophitia's life, Taki appeared and engaged the pirate in combat before slaying him and taking some of the broken shards and the injured Greek warrior with her. Siegfried would later stumble upon Cervantes' body, still clutching the other half of Soul Edge in his hands. Before the Siegfried's eyes, the pirate's corpse would be engulfed in flames before transforming into Inferno and engaging the young warrior in combat. After Siegfried defeats Inferno, he grabs Soul Edge, triggering the Evil Seed.[2]
  • The Story is believed to have taken place between Soul Edge and Soulcalibur, due to the fact that Siegfried's English voice resembles that of Siegfried in Soul Blade, and that he does not possess the scar that debuted in Soulcalibur. As well as in the game he reveals in the stage where the player fights Fafnir alone, prior to about to fight Fafnir, that he doesn't know who it was that murdered his father.
  • In the Mansion in Soulcalibur Legends, the spike traps' blades are composed of Glam, Faust, and other swords Siegfried has had in the past.
  • This game is the first Soulcalibur game to feature Jin Urayama, Roger Craig Smith, Chie Nakamura and others as voices.
