Snide is the main antagonist of Power Rangers Dino Super Charge. He was an ammonite-themed outlaw who took over Sledge's Crew after Sledge's disappearance.
History[]
Past[]
Millions of years ago, when Heckyl touched the Dark Energem, Snide was created as the other half of Heckyl by its dark powers. After he was born, he gave the Dark Energem to Lord Arcanon and later neither of them remembered this and they went on becoming outlaws and destroying galaxies. TV STORY-Wings of Danger
At some point in time, they were both captured and arrested by Sledge under orders from Arcanon. Due to his dangerous nature, he was placed into solitary confinement which is a completely sealed and black out cell.
Dino Charge[]
Tired of his repeated failures, Sledge releases Heckyl from solitary confinement to trick the Dino Charge Rangers into trusting him. Heckyl does not transform in Snide’s place while free and is re-captured and imprisoned when his plan fails. TV STORY-Wishing For a Hero
In the episode "One More Energem," Sledge's Ship crashes following an intense battle with the Rangers, Snide emerges from the ruins of a solitary confinement cell whilst declaring his time had come with a maniacal evil laugh. He is not seen in full body, but his face is.
Dino Super Charge[]
Weeks after the crash, the solitary confinement cell Snide is held in is damaged and weakened enough so he can make his escape and he confronts the Vivix and Spikeballs, all of which still fiercely loyal to Sledge, until he and Heckyl impose their authority with the latter ordering the other outlaws to be freed and forcing them to submit to him after eliminating one who attempts to leave. While Heckyl is busy trying to infiltrate the Power Rangers' base, Snide enlists Iceage's aid to help him destroy his enemies in the more old-fashioned way but to no avail, as they trick the villains and destroy Iceage once again. TV STORY-When Evil Stirs
Snide is seen as Heckyl is forced to switch bodies with him in the kitchen of the Dino Bite Cafe. He takes his leave and heads for the ship where Snide then asks Wrench and the reanimated Stingrage what Heckyl is up to. They explain his plan is to have the Power Rangers drink it and become amnesiac but Snide knows better and concludes the heroes are not dumb enough to fall for it so he changes the plot. He is asked by the now bewildered Heckyl what he altered as Stingrage attacks Riley. He has a small discussion with Heckyl as to the plan's approach. He then shifts with Heckyl once more within the Power Rangers' base, chastising Heckyl for his ineptitude. He has Fury and Stingrage to increase the amount of intoxication in Amber Beach by having the venom dumped straight into the city's water reservoir. However, his scheme falters as the Rangers defeat the outlaw through a combination of the newly-acquired Dino Super Drive and the now adaptable Dino Armor X. He is then cited by Heckyl as his partner prematurely celebrates victory, but their triumph is short-lived as Curio accidentally pours the forgetfulness venom as the drinks and has everyone forget what they were about to do. TV STORY-Forgive and Forget
Snide appears as Heckyl is finally unmasked by the Power Rangers and, taking a defensive stance against them, he states they have been lucky this time but that he eventually will find out the location of their base, take their Energems, and then rip each and every one of them to shreds from head to toe. However, rather than fighting, Snide limits himself to taunt them at this faceoff as he realizes he is outmatched and outnumbered, and escapes through teleportation. TV STORY-Nightmare in Amber Beach
Snide, accompanied by by Fury and Wrench, confront a mysterious crash near their base and meet Singe. Though initially intent on destroying him, he reasons that the upstart outlaw may be a valuable ally and chooses not only to spare him, but also to recruit him to his cause. It is also through Snide's first interaction with Singe that he is associated with Heckyl, who seems to be more fond and liking of Singe's style and attitude, as well as more patient and willing to listen to his ideas. Though Singe fails his first mission, he is given credit enough to be allowed to become a permanent member of the crew and a key player in the clash of good versus evil taking place on Earth. TV STORY-A Date with Danger
After Singe earns Heckyl's approval in enacting his next plan through Ninja, once again much to Fury's distaste, the plan carries through soundly. By nightfall, as the full moon illuminates the sky, Snide congratulates Singe on his success, but points out his plan is not yet finished and that his patience is in short supply. Singe states all he needs is help to track down and capture the rampaging Tyler, to which Hunter offers his aid. Snide makes it clear that, unlike Heckyl, although he tolerates Singe, he does not like him and he will know how much he is disliked if he fails him. The two outlaws team up, but Hunter retreats, leaving Ninja to fend for himself. Outmatched, Ninja is destroyed by the Rangers' T-Rex Super Charge Mode and Plesio Charge Megazord Pachy-Rex Formation. Hunter is close to being sentenced to death, but is spared in the nick of time by Singe who needs him as bait for his next plan. TV STORY-Roar of the Red Ranger
Fury is angered because Singe destroys the pod with the message containing the location of the Titano Zord, but Snide reveals that Singe tells him the location of the Zord. Snide sends Hookbeard to destroy the Zord but this plan fails. TV STORY-Gone Fishin
Snide appears after Heckyl's defeat against Lord Arcanon, Singe and Doomwing where he beats them with Fortress, his Monster Megazord. Heckyl replaces Snide when the Rangers use their new Dino Charge Ultrazord but they are defeated and Fortress is destroyed. They are returned to jail by Arcanon who takes control of Sledge's Crew for his own purposes. TV STORY-Recipe for Disaster
Noticing that the Rangers have created Split Emmiter devices used for splitting Zenowing and Doomwing, Snide attempts to propose his loyalty to Arcanon in exchange to separate him from Heckyl with the Split Emitters, betraying him and not caring about their home planet Arcanon destroyed. TV STORY-Freaky Fightday
In reality, he had been manipulating Arcanon in order to gain his trust while secretly helping Sledge's army get the Dark Energem. After the group finds Sledge alive, they then successfully destroy Arcanon and his army with the Dark Energem-powered blaster, allowing Sledge to reclaim his original throne of the ship. TV STORY-Worgworld
Snide continues to team up with Sledge to destroy the Rangers. He gives Sledge the Dark Energem to repair his ship before their master plan begin. Then, they send Badussa against the Rangers to transform them into stone with his amulet, but Shelby with the aid of James, Phillip, Keeper and Heckyl destroy the amulet and free the others Rangers. Despite Badussa's death, Sledge's ship is repaired and returned to space. Sledge invites Snide to the bridge to assist at the destruction of the Earth. TV STORY-The Rangers Rock!
Unfortunately, Snide overhears Sledge say that he is no longer of use to him and decides to play along with Sledge's game until the time has come to get rid of him. During Sledge and Poisandra's wedding, at the same time the six Greenzillas that Sledge put in different locations are destroyed, Snide is sent to Earth to find the Rangers' location, but first steals the Dark Energem from Poisandra's ring without Sledge's crew knowing. Snide tracks the Rangers to the Dino Museum he and Heckyl visit but, after some momentary confusion, realizes that the Rangers' base is actually beneath the museum. Smashing his way in through its ceiling, he attacks both Kendall and Keeper but is thwarted by Heckyl and forced outside. Snide calls for the Magna Beam but Sledge refuses, claiming that he is meaningless in his backup plan and leaving Snide surrounded by Heckyl and the Rangers who offer him the chance to give up but he refuses. The Rangers combine thier Dino Morpher Blast Final Strike, Titano Charge Morpher Final Strike, Heckyl's lightning, and the Dino Charge Ultrazord's Titano Cannon Final Strike to finally kill Snide. The combined energy is powerful enough to disintegrate parts of Snide's face and chest before he falls onto his back and explodes. TV STORY-Edge of Extinction
Rise of the Dark Ranger[]
After Heckyl became the official Keeper of the Dark Energem following the events of End of Extinction, he and Zenowing return to Sentai 6 before its destruction by Lord Arcanon, During this time in Sentai 6, Heckyl contained the power of the Dark Energem in a magic sphere while also being overly concerned with the safety of Sentai 6. Heckyl's immediate thoughts were to take a militant approach to defend his planet and so, he secretly began building a Morpher for the Dark Energem based on Zenowing's Titano Charge Morpher. Snide manifested as a shadow next to him while Heckyl make his Morpher. After Heckyl destroyed Lord Arcanon, he became dominated by the power of the Dark Energem, which attempted to turn him into Snide again. Heckyl realized what happened as his Ranger suit began to contort and shape itself into the very skin of his former cohabitant. Snide was a resurgence but Zenowing managed to save Heckyl by purifying the power of the Dark Energem, sacrificing himself in the process. COMIC STORY- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Boom! Beast Morphers[]
Four years later, after getting informed by Evox to go and collect Ryjack's collection of weapons, Robo-Blaze and Robo-Roxy arrive at his ship, recently finding out that it has been destroyed. Among the weapons the two found belonging to old foes, Robo-Roxy finds Snide's katana (which was previously thrown out following his explosion) so she decides to revive him with the Reanimizer, realizing that he does not know where he is and does not know her and Robo-Blaze as he is from a different dimension. After Snide is reanimized, they notice that Zoey has been knocked out after the destruction of Ryjack's ship, so he and the two robots decide to hide before she wakes up.
Whilst the Grid Battleforce Rangers and Dino Charge Rangers fight the Vivix as a distraction, Snide and his new friends kidnap Keeper and bring him back to the Crystal Dimension for Evox's uses.
Snide is saying that Keeper knows a lot of secrets about his Dino Charge Rangers. Scrozzle states that learning information about the past Rangers is excellent, so they would be able to learn how to defeat them. But Snide states that they will be destroying them, which makes Evox agreeing with him. After Keeper tells them all about the Dino Charge Rangers' secrets, Evox demands the Energems, so Scrozzle thought that Snide could take over this task. This allowed the revived outlaw to lure the Rangers into a trap with Keeper involved in order to get the Energems for Evox.
Snide, Scrozzle, and Keeper go to a warehouse where the Rangers bring the weapons which Scrozzle leaves with. Snide double crosses them and was about to attack when the Grid Battleforce Rangers were forced to leave and fight a Gigadrone, leaving just the Dino Charge Rangers. However, Tyler is able to summon Shelby and Riley from their world and they take on Snide together. Although Snide initially had the upper hand, Tyler turns the tide by changing into T-Rex Super Charge Mode and unleashing a T-Rex Super Charge kick before Ivan weakens him with a lightning slash. Now weakened, the five main Rangers combine their powers and take out Snide with a Victory Final Strike. However, he survives and goes back into battle, being evenly matched up until Sledge, Poisandra, Curio, Fury, and Wrench arrive after Scrozzle resurrects them. They go into battle and overwhelm the Dino Charge Rangers but are forced to retreat when the Grid Battleforce Rangers return and overwhelm them with the Beast-X Blasters' Beast-X Blast and the Striker Morphers' Striker Beast Blast. TV STORY-Finders Keepers
While Evox talked about wanting to create an army, Scrozzle says that none of the monsters they have resurrected were anything special, angering Snide, who proceeds to threaten him along with Sledge. Snide is present when Evox, his minions, and Sledge's Crew debate who to resurrect and enhance with the diamonds that Thieftron stole but he provides no ideas and does not participate in Poisandra and Curio's attack on the diamond factory with Goldar eventually being resurrected as Goldar Maximus. TV STORY-Making Bad
Sometime later, Goldar and Snide led an attack on the Dino Charge Rangers in the Dino Charge Dimension with some Putties, Triptoids, and Vivix. They successfully steal the Red, Blue, Black and Gold Energems and bring them to Scrozzle.
Snide, getting angry about Scrozzle taking so long to create Evox's Chimera Zord and seemingly just playing with geodes, threatens him to hurry up until Goldar Maximus helps out. When news arrives of an advancing Ranger army, Snide, Goldar, Blaze, and Roxy deploy with an army of Tronics, Putties, Triptoids and Vivix in a massive assault. When the battle commences, he fights the Dino Thunder Rangers but is overwhelmed by Kira in Super Dino Mode and energy slashed multiple times in the head. With Snide stunned, they form the Z-Rex Blaster which puts an end to Snide once and for all when it instantly obliterates him. TV STORY-Grid Connection
Split History[]
Necessary Evil[]
When the three Emissaries see the Power Rangers from different timelines and universes, the Dino Charge World is seen by the Blue Emissary, where the Dino Charge Rangers are fighting against several Vivix in a museum. During the battle the Rangers are interfered by Snide/Heckyl. COMIC STORY- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Boom! Studios) Issue 46
Personality[]
Unlike Heckyl in his evil state, Snide was not psychotic nor insane and knew how to keep his cool while enforcing discipline, thus keeping his temper in check. Snide believed that the best way to get what is desired is to be straightforward. Even so, he proved to be a worthier leader than Heckyl as shown when he quickly evolved some of Heckyl's plans to something more challenging for the Rangers to counter. Snide shows his true colors in battle, but he knows when to retreat. He is also shown to be willing to strike deals if necessary, as he made an agreement with Lord Arcanon to permanently separate himself from Heckyl, which was successful and made possible by Wrench's recently acquired Split-Emitters that were originally created and used by the Dino Charge Rangers in order to split apart Doomwing and Zenowing, and joining forces with Sledge to defeat Arcanon. However, upon learning that Sledge has no use for Snide anymore and attempted to get rid of him, Snide knew of this since his first meeting with the bounty hunter and played along with Sledge's plan to enact his own plan. After getting reanimated by Robo-Roxy, Snide agreed to work for Evox even if that meant working alongside Sledge and his crew again. Despite his bitterness towards the Dino Charge Rangers for destroying him, he remained loyal to Evox up until the end.

Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
- Snide was voiced by Campbell Cooley and his voice was very similar to that of Sirjinkor.
Design[]
- Snide was an ammonite-themed alien with a metallic dark gray body covered in small blue stones, a red chest cavity, and pincer-like shoulder pads with small white orbs located in them.
- Snide's sword is a retool of his Sentai Counterparts' Iron Axe of Darkness weapon with the axe blade replaced with a sword blade.
Etymology[]
- Together with his humanoid alter ego Heckyl, Snide's name is a play on the Robert Louis Stevenson novel Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, wherein the title characters are alternating and contrasting personalities of the same man made manifest by a series of bizarre events. The character has since become a model for other similar characters who embody contrasting personalities and often struggle to reconcile the two as they display at different times and for different reasons.
- To be snide is to have a disposition that is both sarcastic and mocking, which aptly describes this villain.
Notes[]
- Before the episode "Freaky Fightday", it was originally thought that the tentacle that appears in the episodes "True Black" and "Rise of a Ranger", was from the plant-themed monster Greenzilla.
- Snide is the only villain to become a main antagonist whereas his predecessors, (Sledge and Arcanon), are still alive.
