Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger (機界戦隊ゼンカイジャー Kikai Sentai Zenkaijā), is the 45th season of Super Sentai.

The show's theme is robots and machinery, celebrating Super Sentai's 45th anniversary with heroes and items based on past Sentai Robots and Ranger teams.

On March 7, 2021, the series premiered on the Super Hero TimeIcon-crosswiki block alongside Kamen Rider SaberIcon-crosswiki after Mashin Sentai Kiramager concluded on February 28, 2021. After Saber's finale, Kamen Rider ReviceIcon-crosswiki joined Zenkaiger in the Super Hero Time line-up, and Zenkaiger was replaced by Avataro Sentai Donbrothers on March 6, 2022.

The show is dubbed in South Korea as Power Rangers Zenkaiger (파워레인저 젠카이저 Pawoleinjeo Jenkaijeo?).

Production[]

The trademark for the series was filed by Toei Company on September 8, 2020.

According to producer Shin-ichiro Shirakura, the show's diversity in its titular members, featuring a human and four Kikainoids, is due to the Super Sentai series' recurring themes of diversity in its group of protagonists while maintaining strong characters. The reason why Zenkaizer was chosen as the leader despite being colored white instead of red is to ensure that he would stand out in future crossovers when grouped alongside other Red Rangers.[5] The four Kikainoids were based on the non-human members of Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. Although Zenkaiger is open to the idea of featuring past heroes in certain episodes, Shirakura mentioned that it will not be done in a similar way to Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.

Plot[]

"Countless worlds found themselves....trapped within small machines, unable to resist. And the last world to be targeted........"

One month ago, a strange phenomenon suddenly fused the human world with the parallel world of Kikaitopia. Despite this, the inhabitants of both worlds, humans and Kikainoids, quickly got along and live peacefully together.

In the present, however, their lives are threatened by Kikaitopia's evil rulers, the Tojitendo Dynasty, who seek to conquer all parallel worlds. To face this new threat, a brave and energetic young man named Kaito Goshikida inherits the powers of all previous Super Sentai. Transforming into Zenkaizer, he joins forces with the Kikainoids Juran, Gaon, Magine, and Vroon to save the multiverse from the Tojitendo and find his missing parents. His battle later intensifies with the arrival of the Goldtsuiker family led by their captain, Zocks, who can transform into Twokaizer, and Stacy, a mysterious young man who identifies with the Tojitendo.

Kaito meets a Brave Hero

Zenkaizer meets Gai Shishiou, the main hero of the world of GaoGaiGar.

  • Super Robot Wars DD[4]-In a limited timed event, the Zenkaigers fall through a wormhole and end up in the GaoGaiGar universe. The villains of that franchise, the Zonders, briefly trick them into fighting Gai Shishiou, but once they figure out they have been manipulated they fight alongside the King of Braves. Once Pizza’s EI-25 is destroyed in a boss battle, GaoGaiGar uses its Dimension Pliers in a cutscene to reopen the wormhole, sending the five back home to the World of Zenkaiger.

  • According to producer Shin-ichiro Shirakura, the working title for this season was meant to be Sentai Sentai Sentaiger (センタイ戦隊センタイジャー Sentai Sentai Sentaijā), before the executives decided to use the current title instead.[5][6]
  • This season is the first where the core team consists of a single human and four robots. A similar concept was used in Zyuohger with 1 human and 4 Zyumen.
  • The three series, Zyuohger, Lupinranger VS Patranger and Zenkaiger have the same head writer, Junko Komura. Additionally, the latter two share the distinction of lacking ending credits.
  • Unlike most Super Sentai series, the title card appears at the start of the opening credits.
  • Contrary to previous seasons, Zenkaiger treats each Super Sentai as coming from different worlds.
