Isao Goshikida (五色田 功 Goshikida Isao) is Kaito Goshikida's scientist father who was kidnapped by the Tojitendo and brainwashed into becoming Hakaizer (ハカイザー Hakaizā). After Kaito discovered his identity, he was brainwashed further into Hakaizer Kai but was ultimately rescued by his son. During the teamup with the Donbrothers, Isao would once again take up the mantle of Hakaizer, only this time under his own control and as an asset to his son's team.
History[]
Isao was born to his mother in 1980, and at a young age read several books about Parallel Worlds, sparking an interest which would fuel his scientific career in the future. This, however, greatly upset his teachers, as Isao would be a scatterbrained student in elementary school. In his middle school years, Isao would try jumping out of a window in an attempt to reach another Parallel World, though he ended up with a knee injury after making a crash landing on the street. During his high school years, Isao met his future wife Mitsuko, who he would marry after college. The couple would then welcome their child, Kaito, a few years later. Isao would later accidentally drop Kaito while playing with him at one point, earning him significant grievances from his mother and wife.
Isao and Mitsuko would continue studying about Parallel Worlds and would eventually propose their existence, but at the moment it could not be proven. The couple also researched about the Super Sentai teams across those worlds and invented Sentai Gears and five Transformation Gun Geartlingers, the tools to utilize the powers of 44 Sentai teams, which were then hidden in an underground lab they secretly built under Candy Cafe Colorful. After many failed attempts, the Goshikidas successfully made Secchan, a mechanical pet bird for their son, Kaito. The couple also took Kaito on many scientific expeditions around Japan, one notable instance seeing Kaito successfully netting a rhinoceros beetle.
Shortly after, the couple were kidnapped by the Tojitendo and were kept in stasis in a hidden location within their base. Izirude would access the vast knowledge on the Sentai Gears within their memories and use it to create the Tojiru Gears, along with a majority of the Tojitendo's arsenal.
In an attempt to access the database connected to the Goshikidas' minds, Stacy would inadvertently awaken a part of their subconscious, which would lead to Secchan being driven on autopilot to discover the blueprints of the Zenkaiju Gear that the two of them had left behind. As Hakaizer[]
After Stacy rescued Mitsuko from stasis and she escaped into an unknown parallel world, Izirude would continue to use data from Isao's mind for ideas. However, this would eventually come to a limit, and Izirude had exhausted all of the ideas that were stored in Isao's mind. In order to bring Isao's mind back working and stimulated, Izirude would then turn Isao into Hakaizer, a Zenkaizer prototype designed by the couple, to create a second experimental soldier after Stacaesar. TV STORY-No. 28-kai! Weekly Shonen Manga World of Great Illustrations! Hakaizer would first attack Stacy after he returned from a failed mission, TV STORY-No. 29-kai! Do You Know The Prince's Aim? but would not enter the battlefield until Dried Persimmon World made his first move. Managing to hold off the Zenkaigers with the Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon, Hakaizer gave the World an opening to strike them, with both Tojitendo fighters fleeing the scene once the deed was done. The Dynasty's new warrior was quickly introduced to and praised by Bokkowaus, though not without raising some suspicion in the ranks.
Hakaizer would later return to combat in the second battle with Dried Persimmon World, managing to put the Zenkaigers on the ropes due to the World's dehydration waves. However, Zenkaizer was able to to keep him separated from Dried Persimmon World and eventually managed to steal back the Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon. Held off by the Kikainoid Zenkaigers and Super Twokaizer, Hakaizer was unable to prevent Zenkaizer from destroying Dried Persimmon World with the Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon, and was forced to retreat due to low power. In the ensuing battle against Halloween World, Hakaizer's true identity as Isao would later be revealed to the four Kikainoid Zenkaigers, after they were able to keep him on the battlefield long enough till the point where his energy was depleted, causing his helmet to deactivate. As the four Zenkaigers were stunned by this development, Izirude would personally bring Hakaizer back to base for another round of energy charging. TV STORY-No. 34-kai! Pumpkin Carving Competition!
Freed from Hakaizer[]
After Izirude revealed to the Zenkaigers that HaKaijuOh was Hakaizer's newest upgrade, the team went back to the Candy Cafe Colorful to discuss some strategy. Meanwhile, it was also revealed that HaKaijuOh was Great King Bokkowaus' idea, stating that he'd, "offer a fraction of the royal family's power". After Kaito, Juran, Vroon, Gaon, Magine, and Zocks decided on a plan, HaKaijuOh was seen wreaking havoc upon the city. The Zenkaigers try to fight back in Zenryoku Zenkai-Oh, but weren't quite a match for Izirude's super-weapon. They used Magine's Miracle Power to get Isao away from the city after which, HaKaijuOh's lasers almost had the Zenkaigers beat.
Zocks appeared emerging from Battleship CrocoDaiOh and states that HaKaijuOh's head was Hakaiser's cockpit, and that he was controlling the Mecha from the inside. Zocks goes in to try and rescue him, but a group of Kudakks and a single Kudaiter summoned by Izirude, show up to try and stop him. After the minions are defeated, Zocks releases Isao from HaKaijuOh's head, which caused it to go berserk, with Kaito and Zox forming ZenkaijuOh to engage the Mecha in a brawl. Then, at the same time, the other four Zenkaigers tried to bring Isao back to his senses, by showing him pictures of important occasions in his life and memories of Kaito's childhood. The Tojitendo's General brainwashing would slowly start to subside but he wouldn't snap out of it. HakaijuOh would then be destroyed by a combined attack by ZenkaijuOh and the newly formed CrocoDai Bazooka.
Kaito then arrived and transformed into Zenkaizer, with both combatants engaging in a gun duel, with Kaito dual wielding both his Geartalinger and the Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon. Kaito would eventually overpower Haikaizer's shots, sending Hakaizer flying into the air after which the Hakaizer suit would run out of power and dissipate from Isao's body. Isao would then wake up and Kaito would get his father back, and Isao reunited with his mother, Yatsude. With Isao back on the side of the Zenkaigers, the Tojitendo Dynasty had lost their key resource in both combat and technology, permanently taking Hakaizer out of the fight. TV STORY-No. 40-kai! Personality[]
Isao is a kind-hearted and cheerful person. As shown in flashbacks, he raised Kaito with love, wishing the best for him. He also has a great sense of justice, demonstrated with the creation of the Zenkaiger’s arsenal for the purpose of defending the world.
As Hakaizer, Isao retains his uplifting and cheerful personality, but is on the side of Tojitendo. His role in combat is to protect the currently rampaging World from the Zenkaigers and Twokaizer, and he takes this role seriously in contrast to his cheerfulness and strength in battle. Most of his lines and mannerisms mimic those of his son, as well as Sentai heroes in general, to the point of performing an iconic heroic landing when he appears. He also retains Kaito's sense of modesty.
Even with his dedication to his role, Hakaizer is also very willing to fight anyone who wishes to challenge him, so much so that he neglected Milk World while fighting Zocks. He respects how strong the Zenkaigers are, despite them being his enemies. However, whenever he fails to protect a World, he would usually childishly bemoan it.
Notable amid every Tojitendo general thus far, Hakaizer actually enjoys and encourages comraderie in an open fashion, even encouraging Stacy to be more expressive about himself. This went to the extent that he willing helped Zenkaizer protect Stacy from a forcibly controlled Lise, despite both of them technically being enemies. After the second brainwashing, though, Hakaizer would regularly deny his original identity as Kaito's father, despite the Zenkaiger leader constantly referring to him as such.
Isao is highly adept at understanding technology, creating the vast majority of the Zenkaigers' equipment and making a parallel world transport gate from scratch, using only minimum knowledge from Flint Goldtsuiker.
Family[]
Forms[]
"Change Zenkai!"
- Height: 198 cm
- Weight:
- Speed:
- Power:
The Hakaizer suit was based on an early prototype for the Zenkaizer ranger power set, the more notable addition being the Tojitendo insignia on the chest. Compared to Stacaesar, the Hakaizer suit was built with a more robust and durable frame, and more substantially, the suit is able to brainwash the wearer, whereas the Stacaesar suit allows the wearer to retain their free will. Isao later modified the Hakaizer suit so that he could still retain his free will while using it.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Shadow Stealth: As Hakaizer, Isao could hide within shadows to launch surprise attacks on his enemies.
Attacks[]
- Hakai Finish Buster: As Hakaizer, Isao can transform his right arm into a chargeable blaster that allows him to fire an energy beam at his enemies.
Abilities[]
- Enhanced Strength: As Hakaizer, Isao could punch hard enough to send the Zenkaigers and Twokaizer flying a significant distant away.
- Enhanced Agility: As Hakaizer, Isao's speed and jump power match the Zenkaigers very closely and he has even exceeded them in some instances.
Weaknesses[]
- Energy Consumption: The Hakaizer suit can run out of energy and eventually deactivate his helmet if he fights for too long, and is alerted by the blinking lights on his chest. If left in this deactivated state for long enough, the brainwashing will be temporarily disabled, enabling Isao to regain his senses after a while. After his brainwash upgrade, Hakaizer is usually dragged forcibly back to the Tojitendo palace before his energy levels drain completely. It is revealed in episode 41 that after wearing the suit for as long as he has been, even without the suit, he still must recharge himself, indicated by his eyes glowing.
Arsenal[]
- Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon: The personal weapon of Hakaizer, personally dubbed the Zenryoku Hakai Gun while it was under his usage. Like Stacy, Hakaizer can summon manifestations of past Sentai Rangers of any color based on the type of motifs to fight against the Zenkaigers. He lost this weapon after his son, Zenkaizer, took it from him.
- V-merang: Hakaizer's other main weapon is a large boomerang which he stores as a wing-like structure on his back when not in use. In addition to a throwing weapon, Hakaizer has wielded it as a bladed weapon in close combat.
- Gun Arm: Hakaizer’s forearms each have twin gun barrels, which he can fire at will if he has them aimed at the enemy.
Appearances: Zenkaiger Episodes 29-38, Avataro Sentai Donbrothers vs. Zenkaiger
- Height: 198 cm
- Weight: 197 kg
Wanting to do more with Hakaizer's battle potential, both Bokkowaus and Gege authorized the Hakaizer Kai upgrade. This form replaces the V-merang rig with a black cape, and the brainwashing function was upgraded to make Hakaizer just as ruthless as the other Tojitendo generals. As a result, it supresses Isao's remaining jovial traits.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Power: Hakaizer Kai is significantly stronger, faster, and more agile than his standard form, managing to block and throw Twokaizer mid-kick and sending the Zenkaigers flying while dodging every one of their attacks.
Abilities[]
- Transformation: Hakaizer's body can convert into that of HaKaijuOh.
Weaknesses[]
- Memory Struggle: Due to Hakaizer's suit relying on the ability to brainwash the wearer, if Isao is given personal information pertaining to him, his mind can resist the brainwashing to a certain extent. This will leave Hakaizer open for attack, though in order to permanently free Isao Zenkaizer had to barrage him with rounds from both his Geartlinger and the Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon.
- Energy Consumption: Like his base form, Hakaizer Kai requires his power levels to be at their peak for the brainwashing to remain in effect. Because the upgrade consumed power much faster, a drawn out battle would end up disabling the suit permanently. Even with the suit permanently disabled, Isao still requires regular energy recharging in his human form, which he achieves using a self-built recharging pod based on the one used by the Tojitendo.
Arsenal[]
- Gun Arm: Hakaizer retains his previous form's arm cannons.
Mecha[]
- HaKaijuOh: Hakaizer’s personal Giant Robo.

Portrayal[]
- Isao Goshikida is portrayed by Daijiro Kawaoka (川岡 大次郎 Kawaoka Daijirō), who previously portrayed Sohji, the alternate incarnation of Kamen Rider Kabuto, and Soh Otogiri in Kamen Rider Decade. As Hakaizer, his suit actor is Hirotsugu Mori (森 博嗣 Mori Hirotsugu), who also performs as TwokaiOh in the series. Prior to his revelation as Hakaizer, Kawaoka was credited with question marks until Isao’s face was revealed in episode 34 during the series’s run. He also deepened Hakaizer's voice as of episode 38, and even further in episode 40.
Design[]
- Hakaizer's suit design and color scheme resemble Fire-Stealth Captor 7 from Ninja Captor, a Toei-produced tokusatsu show with elements similar to Super Sentai.
- The red lines which run down Hakaizer's shoulders and torso resemble the kanji for "father" (父 chichi), an allusion to his true identity as Kaito's father.
Etymology[]
- Hakaizer's name is a portmanteau of the words "Hakai" (破壊 Destruction) and "kaiser".
Notes[]
- His name, like all members of the Goshikida family, refers to someone significant in Super Sentai's history. Here, it is the name of Isao Sasaki, one of the two singers of Susume! Gorenger, the opening song of Himitsu Sentai Gorenger.
- As Hakaizer, Isao is the first Tojitendo general to be defeated permanently, as he was rescued from the dynasty's clutches.
- He is revealed to have been born on May 30, 1980, making him 41 years old at the time of the series original airing.
- In Donbrothers vs Zenkaiger, he transformed into Hakaizer by turning his thumb as if it was a gear.
