When not in combat use, the Yakuza Kasen takes the appearance of a plain wooden walking cane that Fujitora uses for navigation due to his blindness. Like most Shikomizue when unsheathed, Yakuza Kasen has no real handguard, and its blade portion is straight.
Abilities[]
As one of the 12 Supreme Grade Swords, the quality of Yakuza Kasen is ranked among the best, being one of the most powerful weapons ever created. Yakuza Kasen has immense strength and durability that is capable of clashing with other powerful Meito, like the ones wielded by Roronoa Zoro, with little difficulty.[2]
Fujitora mostly wields this sword in a reverse grip style and frequently utilizes his Zushi Zushi no Mi in conjunction with his swordsmanship.[3] Notably, Fujitora rarely uses his weapon for direct offense, instead using it for blocking or directing his gravitational waves.[2][4]
Techniques[]
Gravito (重力刀,Gurabitō?, literally meaning "Gravity Blade"): Fujitora's signature technique. Fujitora can manipulate gravitational forces by channeling his Devil Fruit's ability through his sword, sending gravitational forces by swinging or just simply moving his weapon. The direction of the gravitational forces can be upwards, downwards, or even sidewards, usually just one at a time. The technique was first used against thugs of the Donquixote Pirates by generating a deeply ground-cratering downforce of gravity. However, this technique was not named until his fight against Sabo.[4] This is called Gravity Blade in the VIZ manga and Funimation adaptations.
Moko (猛虎,Mōko?, literally meaning "Fierce Tiger"): Fujitora generates immense levels of gravitational forces around him that push out horizontally, which knock away anything in its path, including his enemies, buildings, trees, and whatever else that is unfortunate enough to be in the attack radius. The force is so strong that it easily destroys the ground and buildings, reducing them to rubble. While using this technique, the gravitational force generates black lightning as a visual effect around Fujitora. It was first used against Sabo.[4] This is called Raging Tiger in the VIZ manga and Funimation adaptations. The name of this technique is a reference to Issho's epithet, Fujitora, which means "wisteria tiger"; and likely to shogi as well, as "Mōko" refers to two different pieces pronounced the same way, being "the blind tiger" (盲虎) and "the fierce tiger" (猛虎), the latter allowing one to move two squares forward in some variants.
History[]
Yakuza Kasen was forged by the swordsmith Fugetsu Kisaburo, a member of the esteemed Fugetsu Family from Wano Country.[1] At some point, the sword was obtained by Issho, who has wielded it ever since.[1]
Trivia[]
Its name is likely a reference to the 1972 film Shin Heitai Yakuza Kasen, a film in the The Hoodlum Soldier series, which stars Fujitora's actor model Shintaro Katsu.
