The "Benevolent King of the Waves" is a Marine Captain stationed at the GR 66 Marine Base on the Sabaody Archipelago.[1]
Appearance[]
The Benevolent King of the Waves is a large, hulking man in a Marine officer's uniform. He has short black hair with a goatee, and two large scars on his face, one horizontally across his nose and the other vertically down his left eye.

Personality[]
He is well respected by his subordinates and colleagues due to his bravery and victory over countless pirates.
He does, however, have a deep love for Chopper due to his cuteness. He became tense when the Marines found the Thousand Sunny and panicked as his colleagues fired at it, worrying that Chopper would be injured.[1]
Abilities and Powers[]
As a Marine Captain, he has authority over lower-ranking subordinates. He has considerable power considering he can intimidate pirates as if here were a roaring wave.[1]
During the Summit War of Marineford, he single-handedly caught an ice block big enough to crush a warship.[2]

The Benevolent King of the Waves joined the Marines as a Seaman Recruit, distinguishing himself with his various military successes until he was promoted to Captain.
He was present at Enies Lobby when the Straw Hat Pirates attacked two years ago and became captivated by Chopper's cuteness.[1]

He participated in the Summit War of Marineford; during the chaos, he single-handedly caught an ice block big enough to crush a warship, saving two Marines who it would have landed on.[2]

He was called to the office of Rear Admiral Catacombo who gave him the orders of capturing the Straw Hats while they were on the Sabaody Archipelago. He sailed on the same ship as the Rear Admiral and finally caught sight of the Straw Hats and began firing at the ship, leaving the Marine Captain panicked as he didn't want Chopper to be injured. The Marines were stopped by the arrival of the Kuja Pirates, who got between them and the Straw Hats, and he became relieved that the pirates escaped.[1]

After the defeat of Doflamingo, he received Chopper's bounty poster and fainted after looking at its cuteness.[1]
Anime and Novel Differences[]
In One Piece Fan Letter, the Benevolent King of the Waves' rank is changed to Lieutenant Commander, two ranks lower than in the novel.
