“ | Thing is, I'm something of a gambling man. I've been known to be a sucker for cheap thrills and some would even go far as to say I'm a addict. However, when all's said and done, gambling's how I make my living. Tell me, any of you boys like to gamble? | „ |

His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Prior to the events of the story, he flirted with his Terence's girlfriend, when the latter was 15 years old, and the former was 25. Assuming Terence's girlfriend was of similar age to him, this would make Daniel guilty of ephebophilia.
- Tricked numerous challengers into losing their souls (as well as their property in some cases) by gambling and then cheating.
- Swindled the souls of an entire family when they all tried to regain their loved ones' souls.
- Cheats in his games despite warning Joseph and Polnareff not to, showing him as a hypocrite.
- Uses his pet cat to trick Polnareff into losing his soul, forcing the others to play games against him to win Polnareff's soul back.
- Threatens his waiter to kill him when Jotaro begins to raise his hand, fearing the young boy had made some mistake enabling Jotaro to gain any upper hand on him. He even had thoughts of killing the boy if he blows his cover.
- Although he doesn't leak information about DIO's stand, he does so out of extreme fear to the vampire than any true loyalty towards DIO, as he himself admitted before that he was only fighting the Joestar Group out of his pride as a gambler.
- While his defeat is somewhat comedic with him going senile and ranting about gambling on the floor, it is played much more for catharsis and karma rather than comedy, as his mind is taken from him just as the souls were taken from his victims. Not to mention that he is still portrayed for horror after his defeat as Jotaro states how much of dangerous person D'Arby is.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While he managed to stand out with his low resources and with his unique crimes of soul stealing, he kept his souls in an unconscious state so that they don't feel any pain or discomfort, making him fail to stand out in comparison to his brother, whose victims are put in a state of constant torment.
- Despite being a cheater, he passed it off as a gambler's honor, fully expecting Jotaro and Joseph to cheat anyways, and even accepting Jotaro breaking his finger for cheating, showing some respect for Jotaro's sharp senses. He also doesn't use his stand to gain any unfair advantage over the heroes, only using his wits and expertise to do so, even though he could have easily done so.
