“ Business, always business. „
~ The Greek to an airport employee
“ Lambs go to slaughter. A man, he learns when to walk away. „
~ The Greek explains his philosophy

The Greek is the overarching antagonist of the HBO series The Wire.

He is the mysterious leader of the Greek crime syndicate, which is responsible for the trafficking of heroin into Baltimore, as well as both human trafficking and the import and export of stolen goods.

He was portrayed by Bill Raymond.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He is the head of an international crime syndicate who supplies drugs to local kingpins like Proposition Joe, oversees the import and export of stolen goods, and runs a sex trafficking ring.
  • He shows no concern when one of his associates kills fourteen trafficked women by suffocating them in a shipping container. While he has the man responsible killed, this is because he lost him a shipment and brought too much attention to his operations, not because he cares about the women.
    • "In a year, each whore would bring a quarter million. What is it? Four million dollars. Gone. Anyway, there will be other girls."
  • He takes advantage of Frank Sobotka's desperation to revitalize the docks, effectively forcing him into an agreement to assist in his smuggling operation. He later has Frank Sobotka killed for informing the police of this matter.
  • He has eleven people killed to tie up loose ends.
  • He mutilates the corpses of people he kills to prevent them from being identified.
  • He gives Marlo Stanfield the greenlight to kill and usurp Proposition Joe.
  • While Marlo has far more confirmed kills with fewer resources, The Greek still stands out because he's the one who imports the drugs into Baltimore, thus enabling people like Marlo. Furthermore, sex trafficking is a uniquely horrific crime by the standards of the show.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He genuinely cares about Spiros Vondas, and he declines to kill Nick Sobotka because Vondas likes him.
