"Misadventures in Babysitting" is the fourteenth episode of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3.

Synopsis[]

Mario and Luigi stumble through a pipe that brings them into a completely random home somewhere in Brooklyn. The unnamed couple who owns the house happen to be going out to dinner tonight, but since they forgot to call for someone to babysit their son, called Junior, the mother decides to give the task to the Mario Bros. As soon as his folks leave, Junior challenges the Marios to a game of hide and seek, and while they're counting, he goes through the pipe that brought the Marios into his house (it happens to be under his sink).

When he emerges on the other side, Junior meets Ludwig, Roy, and Larry Koopa, who offer to help him pull some pranks on his babysitters. Sure enough, the Mario Bros. show up looking for Junior, and the Koopas, with help from Junior, lure the Marios into a volcano cave After trapping them in there, Ludwig begins filling the cave with lava, during which he and the other Koopalings turn on Junior and throw him into the Pipe Maze.

The Marios manage to escape from the volcano and, after eavesdropping on the Koopas, go down into the Pipe Maze to find Junior. Just then, the Koopas begin filling lava into the Pipe Maze as well, forcing Junior and the Marios (who gain Raccoon Suits on the way out) to escape. Before they can bring Junior home, though, Mario and Luigi (somehow) stop the volcano from erupting by placing a boulder on top of it. When Junior's parents come home and find that the Marios have already managed to get Junior into the bathtub, the mother decides to have them babysit Junior again on Friday.

Trivia/Goofs[]

  • Junior's mother says she and her husband will be back at 10:30 P,M., yet at the end of the episode, it's still light outside.
  • When Larry Koopa says "Kid, this could be the start of a wonderful friendship" his nose disappears briefly
  • When Mario and Luigi encounter with a "Ptooie" its head its green, But when Junior and the Koopalings are watching them, its head its red.
  • Since Luigi is obviously skinnier than Mario, it shouldn't be likely that he would get stuck trying to climb out of the volcano. Additionally, right before Mario jumps through himself, the lava is already up to his waist, and yet he manages to survive without even having his legs burned off.
  • When Mario and Luigi rush Junior to the bathtub, Mario's overalls turn green, making him look like Luigi. They turn back to red in the next shot.
  • Factoral error: The Marios' method of stopping the volcano from erupting is ridiculous and shouldn't work. If a boulder were placed on top of a volcano in real life, the lava pressure would eventually dislodge the boulder, or the volcano would explode because of the lava pressure altogether.
  • Luigi is wearing a watch in the episode. This is the only episode in the series in which any of the major characters are wearing a watch.
  • "For a first-time plumbers' helper, you weren't bad yourself," Mario says to Junior afterward. This sentence does not make any sense, as Junior did absolutely nothing to help the Mario Bros. once in the entire episode. In fact, considering that he allowed the Koopalings to lure them into the volcano to start with, it's Junior's fault they were almost killed.
  • Apparently, someone broke into Junior's home while he and the Marios were in the Mushroom World, because when they return, the TV and most of the furniture in the living room are gone. Interestingly, they and Junior's parents were not aware of this.
  • When Ludwig begins to fill the Pipe Maze, Roy's voice noticeably and drastically changes for his line, "Yeah. This oughta parboil those bean-in-a-tail plumbers, and their Brooklyn brat!". (Coincidentally, this was also Roy's last line in this episode.) This may be because Gordon Masten felt sick in the middle of the production and switched places with another voice actor.
  • The episode's title is a spoof of the 1987 film Adventures in Babysitting.
