New York City, is were Mario and Luigi were born in the television shows and movies, specifically in Brooklyn.
In the games, Yoshi's Island showed that Mario and Luigi were dropped off in Yoshi's Island as babies. By the events of Mario Bros., the brothers had become Italians and worked in New York City as plumbers,[1][2][3] after Mario had previously saved Pauline in the city during the events of Donkey Kong.[4]
