Plot[]

Toad alerts the princess and the Mario Bros. about King Koopa and Cheatsy Koopa releasing a flock of Huge Paragoombas to feast on the Mushroom Kingdom's crops. After Mario and Luigi defeat the Huge Paragoombas, Princess Toadstool gets tired of King Koopa trying to conquer her kingdom and decides to hold an election on who will rule the Mushroom Kingdom. She states that whoever loses the election must leave the kingdom. They both agree to do so.

At Castle Koopa, King Koopa reminds Cheatsy that Princess Toadstool is a very liked member of her kingdom and is appreciated by many. Cheatsy suggests that he acts "nicer", however King Koopa does not accept that, that is when Kooky von Koopa enters with a spraying machine and sprays blue paint on King Koopa's face. This causes Koopa to act softer of tender. Kooky later says that the potion is called "Nice Guy Potion".

The next day, Princess Toadstool announces that an election was held to decide between her and King Koopa to become the ruler of the kingdom. Princess Toadstool did not expect King Koopa to come to the election and give his speech, that is until he comes with his army of Koopalings and gives out his money to all the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom. While everyone was happy and satisfied, the princess, Mario, and Luigi were in shock, since King Koopa never acted like this before. He continues to bribe the kingdom with toys, collars, etc., making the whole kingdom believe that King Koopa would be a great president.

Princess Toadstool, Toad, and the Mario Bros. get worried that the kingdom might choose King Koopa over the princess because of his bribing, Princess Toadstool decides to prepare a speech to expose King Koopa's plans. However, when Kooky and Cheatsy eavesdrop on their conversation, they decide to prepare a plan to kill her, so King Koopa wins the election.

The next day, Princess Toadstool gives her speech at the picnic, that is when Kook and Cheatsy release a firecracker that hits a mountain of blocks. Princess Toadstool runs away as the mountain of blocks fall on her, which causes her to jump of a cliff. While the Mario Bros. try to find her, it turns out that she found a warp pipe and hid in it.

Koopa was talking sweetly to a baby, until he stopped acting pleasant. Kooky found out that the Nice Guy Potion was wearing off, so King Koopa demanded for more Nice Guy Potions before the election speech. The Mario brothers heard the Koopas and went after them.

Mario and Luigi make their way into the castle as they get away from the Tanks and the Rocky Wrenches, they escape through a warp pipe, only to end up in a fire pit. Inside, the brothers dodge Fire Chomps, Hot Foots, and Fire Snakes before reaching the other side. When they get to Castle Koopa, they find the door to Kooky's Laboratory, where he makes the Nice Guy Potion. Luigi distracts Kooky and Cheatsy by breaking a flask and running away. Mario then drained all the Nice Guy Potion down the drain while the lab was empty. King Koopa gets furious when he realizes the potion was gone because the election was about to start.

After Princess Toadstool gives out her speech, King Koopa hesitates since he is still angry about the Nice Guy potion. Cheatsy tells King Koopa to play nice and try faking the whole way through. During his speech, the princess cuts him off and exposes him for using a potion to get votes. King Koopa denies this and threatens to smash anyone into mush who says otherwise.

Afterwards, Mario reveals the vote count and winner, by a vote of 6,436,212 to 1, Princess Toadstool was the winner. While King Koopa was wondering how he was the only guy who voted for him. Cheatsy admitted that since the princess was so nice, they had to vote for her. King Koopa gets mad and chases his kids around.

• In the Swedish dub, when King Koopa gets hit by the kid, he says "Din jäv..." but stops. In Swedish, "jäv" is the first part of the word "jävla" which is part of Swedish profanity.
