September 1st: Part 7 (9
Synopsis[]
Linssen and Basho notice that the Phantom Troupe members are no longer following them, having seen that someone landed on their car. Dalzollene guesses that it was the other Shadow Beasts and tells Kurapika that they will return to the city and change the location to their third plan.
It's stated that Machi is a Transmuter and spins her aura into threads, with the tensile strength of each strand being inversely proportional to its length. It's added that if the strand is equivalent to cotton thread, it can be spun long enough to circle the globe and, if it's shorter than one meter, strong enough to hold up a weight of one ton. However, it's explained that the strength is reduced once she lets go since Conjurers and Transmuters are not proficient at Emission.
Inside a large building, the Nostrade bodyguards stand around Uvogin as he awakens and finds himself restrained to a table. Wielding a katana, Dalzollene asks him where he took the auction items, but Uvogin simply asks for the time and how long he was unconscious. Dalzollene yells that he will be asking the questions, driving the blade toward Uvogin's right thigh, but Uvogin activates his Nen and the blade quickly breaks before doing any damage.
Impressed by Uvogin's willpower and describing him as a combat machine, Kurapika says to himself that the Troupe member's aura has no hesitation even though he's about to be tortured. Thinking to himself, Uvogin says that he is still unable to move and it will take more time. He adds that he ate dinner around 8 p.m. and guesses from the feeling in his stomach that four hours have passed. He moves his eyes toward Dalzollene and agrees to spare their lives if they let him go. A panicked Squala wonders why he isn't begging for his life, and Melody says that Uvogin means what he said.
Uvogin clarifies that they only want the items from the Underground Auction and adds that none of them will be killed since they don't know where the items are. The others are surprised when Uvogin confirms that the vault was already empty when his group arrived, with Uvogin saying that the Shadow Beasts must have taken the items and not told underlings like them.
Melody nervously says that she doesn't think he's lying, and Squala can't believe that he wasn't bluffing with his earlier offer. Uvogin tells them that everyone makes mistakes, pointing out that nothing has been stolen yet. He repeats his offer and adds that they ignore the plan to steal the auction items, but Kurapika asks him what happened to the guests at the auction, mentioning that their comrades were among them. Uvogin calmly tells him that they are all dead, and Kurapika proceeds to punch him right in the face, angrily asking him how many have died because of their selfish plans.
Basho tries to calm Kurapika down, and Dalzollene adds that they can hand Uvogin over to the Mafia if the auction items are safe. Moving to another room, he calls someone and informs them that they captured one of the thieves. The person on the phone is astonished and reveals that not even the Shadow Beasts were able to capture any of them. Dalzollene replies that he will explain later, telling them to send someone over immediately. He is also curious about the Shadow Beasts and is stunned to learn that they are all dead.
As Kurapika receives a text from Hisoka telling him to meet as promised, Dalzollene tells the others that he will stay behind with Uvogin, telling them to gas him with enough muscle relaxant for three men before they go rest. Kurapika makes his way to the agreed-upon location, and Hisoka is seen playing with his cards, noting that Kurapika is early. Kurapika says to himself that Hisoka doesn't appear to be using In, and Hisoka assures Kurapika that he doesn't plan to fight him now.
Kurapika asks for information on the Troupe, and Hisoka explains that there are thirteen members in total (with each sporting a numbered tattoo as proof). He adds that members can be replaced if an applicant defeats one of them, and any other vacancies are filled by the leader himself. He says that the group usually just steals and kills, but adds that they do charity work on occasion.
After Kurapika replies that he was already aware of those facts, Hisoka reveals that he replaced No. 4 a few years ago because he wanted the chance to fight the leader. However, he says that it has been difficult because of how cautious he is, always having at least two members with him and leaving without a trace once a job has been completed. He tells Kurapika that it will be difficult to achieve each of their goals on their own, promising to reveal the abilities of seven of the members if Kurapika agrees to work with him.
Dalzollene receives a call and tells the Mafia members that they are in B2. One of them asks if the thief is still alive, and Dalzollene explains that they numbed his body with gas since they couldn't penetrate his skin. As they stand beside the table, Uvogin says that "the tailor makes the man" and leaves Dalzollene confused before Phinks suddenly punches through his chest, killing him instantly. Phinks tells Uvogin that he couldn't believe it when he heard about his capture. Machi, Shalnark, and Nobunaga remove their disguises as Shizuku uses Blinky to suck out the poison from Uvogin's body. Uvogin quickly sits up after it's finished and gives a loud scream, cursing the chain user and vowing to get revenge. Melody is startled by the scream as the others sleep through it.
