September 4th: Part 7 (9
Synopsis[]
The others sit in silence after Gon asks Kurapika to use his Nen dagger on him, but Leorio speaks up and reminds Gon that Kurapika will die if he attacks anyone other than a Phantom Troupe member. However, Gon then asks why Kurapika has a Nen dagger in his own heart, causing Leorio and Killua to wonder too before turning to look at Kurapika. He says that the answer will increase the risk, and Leorio stands up and tells Killua that they should leave.
Kurapika tells Gon that he can use the dagger on him, explaining that each of his five chains has a different use and that he uses two of them against the Troupe. He first shows Chain Jail on his middle finger, saying that it restrains his target and forces them into Zetsu. He then shows the Judgment Chain on his pinky finger, saying that he stabs his target's heart with the dagger and sets a rule that causes them to die if they break it. He reveals that after planning to use it on himself with the rule that he could never attack anyone with his chains other than a Troupe member, he worried that using the chain on himself might be considered breaking the rule, not wanting to take the chance that he would be an exception even though he would set the rule after stabbing himself. He explains that he amended the rule to only state that he would never use Chain Jail on anyone other than the Troupe, allowing him to use his Judgment Chain freely.
However, as Kurapika's eyes begin to turn scarlet and draw Gon's attention, he explains that he can only use the ability once his eyes are that color. Gon asks if he can turn it on by himself, and Kurapika says that while it takes time, he is able to do it now. He explains that it was necessary because he is a Conjurer and using the dagger and forcing rules involve Manipulation and Emission. He then reveals to Gon that he becomes a Specialist when his eyes turn scarlet and that he can use any abilities he has learned to their full effect.
It's stated that Nen abilities come in six types which determine the user's strengths and weaknesses. It's explained that if Kurapika had 100% mastery of Conjuration (a "level 10" Conjurer), the highest level of mastery he could attain in Transmutation would be 80%, 60% in Enhancement and Manipulation, and 40% in Emission, with him acquiring less strength in the types that are further from his own. An example is given showing that if Kurapika (as a level 10 Conjurer) and an Emitter (at level 4) used the same emissive ability simultaneously, the Emitter would be more effective because it's his Nen type. However, it's explained that if Kurapika's eyes turned scarlet, he could then use the level 4 emissive ability at 100%, allowing him to equal the effectiveness of the level 4 Emitter.
As Gon says to himself that the explanation went over his head, he tells Kurapika to use his dagger on him and create a rule. Kurapika thanks him for his dedication and readies his ability, but Leorio and Killua suddenly appear behind him, both volunteering to be stabbed as well. However, Kurapika says that he doesn't plan to use his Judgment Chain on any of them, leaving all three surprised. Gon worries about Pakunoda catching him again, but Kurapika points out that he would be killing himself prematurely if a rule was created about not letting Pakunoda touch him at all. He explains that she may not read her target's memories right when she touches them and that they could deal with her before she is able to tell the others.
Gon then asks Kurapika why he's telling them so much about his ability if it increases the risk, and Kurapika replies that he just wanted to thank them for their dedication, assuring them that he won't regret revealing his secret if the Troupe learns it from them and telling himself that he has been blessed with good friends. Gon says that he feels more pressure about disappointing a friend than risking his own life, causing both of them to laugh. Killua remains concerned and leaves to start his reconnaissance mission, taking out his Beatle-07 phone and telling himself that he has more motivation now.
At the Troupe's hideout, Shizuku, Pakunoda, Shalnark, and Hisoka all read their fortunes as Chrollo tells them that they will split up into teams, stressing that they should avoid being alone for the next week. He splits the Troupe into four groups: Shizuku, Pakunoda, and Machi; Kortopi, Phinks, and Feitan (those who were unable to have their fortunes told because they didn't know the necessary information); Nobunaga, Shalnark, and himself; Bonolenov, Franklin, and Hisoka, who are to stay behind at the hideout. Machi tells Chrollo that there are kids who know about the hideout's location, worrying about them even though they don't seem connected to the chain user.
Nobunaga excitedly remembers and tells Chrollo that he nominates them to be members. After Nobunaga tells him about them, Chrollo replies that while they sound interesting, it's unlikely that they would ever join the Troupe. Nobunaga assures him that he will talk them into joining and that he will bring them back so he can judge them for himself. Machi is ardently against Nobunaga's plan because of a hunch, and Chrollo says that her hunches are usually reliable, adding that they shouldn't ignore it. He decides that they should make more fake hideouts and asks Kortopi if he can make ten more, with Kortopi replying that he can make fifty. From a rooftop in the distance, Killua says that something is different and first thinks that he is at the wrong location, but quickly realizes that so many of the buildings appeared out of nowhere. Kortopi adds that he will know if anyone enters any of the fake buildings since his copies also act as his En.
