This jaunty rock song from FFVII's boss fights starts with an exciting guitar solo and is far and away one of the most popular songs in the long FF series.

"Fight On!" (更に闘う者達, Sarani Tatakau Monotachi?, lit. Those Who Fight Further), also known as "Those Who Fight Further", is the boss battle theme for Final Fantasy VII, composed and arranged by Nobuo Uematsu. It is notable for its heavy rock style and fast pace. It has sections of the third part of "Overture" from Final Fantasy VI mixed in it.

Game appearances[]

Final Fantasy VII[]

"Fight On!" first plays in the battle against the Air Buster, and is used for every boss battle thereafter up to and including Diamond Weapon, and excluding the multiple battles with Jenova, Hojo, and the final battles, as well as the battle against Proud Clod. "Fight On!" also continues to play following the battle with Rufus at Shinra Building, and continues until the "Crazy Motorcycle" sequence begins.

"Fight On!" is the twentieth track of the Final Fantasy VII: Original Soundtrack first disc.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children[]

"The Arsenal" is an orchestral version arranged by Yoshitaka Suzuki with an almost identical arrangement as the original that plays during the Arsenal boss battle. It is track 4 of disc 7 on the original soundtrack, and track 13 of disc 4 on the Original Soundtrack Plus. Slightly upgraded version of the same arrangement was used for the Crimson Mare boss battle. This version features additional brass section in the last part of the 1st phase of the track, along with some new parts at the start of 2nd phase & was released on Original Soundtrack Intergrade.

Shotaro Shima also arranged two orchestral versions with additional composition. "Scorpion Sentinel" for the Scorpion Sentinel and "Rufus Shinra" for the Rufus boss battle. "The Vice President Arrives" is an arrangement by Shima that plays during the cutscene before the Rufus boss battle. "Scorpion Sentinel" is track 7 of disc 1 on the original soundtrack. "Rufus Shinra" is track 3 of disc 7 on the original soundtrack, and track 10 of disc 4 on the Original Soundtrack Plus. "The Vice President Arrives" is track 9 of disc 4 on the Original Soundtrack Plus.

"Fight On!" is also included in S7-6 Annex Diversion, Hell House, Midgar Expressway & Gigantipede themes, and is combined with various other tracks from the Final Fantasy VII: Original Soundtrack within each of them. It is also briefly referenced within "One-Winged Angel - Rebirth".

One unreleased version of the track can be found within game files. It's split between two files & titled "bgm_mako5_04#1" & "bgm_mako5_04#2" respectively. It's a heavy metal version of the track intended to play during a cut boss battle against Prototype.

Behind the scenes[]

The track shares a similar iconic guitar riff to the song "Jailbait" from Motörhead as well as Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls".

It bears the most striking resemblance to the song "M-93R" by the Japanese rock band Action!, from their 1986 album "Warning in the Night". [3]

Etymology[]

The track's Japanese name is "Those Who Fight Further", in continuation from the normal battle theme that is called "Those Who Fight", which may originate from the three orders of medieval society as opined by philosophers: Those Who Pray, Those Who Fight, and Those Who Labor.
