The Xbox One is a line of home game consoles manufactured by Microsoft. It is the third base console in the Xbox series of consoles and the successor to the Xbox 360. It was released on November 22, 2013, the same day Super Mario 3D World was released. Being an eighth generation console, its competitors are Sony's PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
Since its release, it has been moderately successful among gamers, as the console has sold 51 million units as of November 2021. Early reviews criticized the console for its "always online" policy and mandatory Kinect device; these features were removed later on.
At E3 2017, Microsoft announced the Xbox One X, a variation of the Xbox One intended to promote "true 4K gaming" and as a move towards the end of specific console generations—all Xbox games players already have can be ported to the new console.
