The Xbox 360 is a line of home game consoles manufactured by Microsoft. It is the second base console in the Xbox series of consoles and the successor to the Xbox. It was released on November 22, 2005, just one week after Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Rush were released. Being a seventh generation console, its competitors are Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii.
Since its release, it has been very successful, as the console has sold 84 million units as of June 2014. The Xbox 360 features Xbox Live as its online service, which has been expanded from its previous iteration on the Xbox and regularly received updates during the console's lifetime.
The Xbox 360's successor, the Xbox One, was released on November 22, 2013. The console was discontinued on April 20, 2016 so Microsoft could focus on its next console.
